We did the 14 night last Feb.
The crowd is older partly because it was Feb and also because of the lengh of the cruise. There were some young couples and a few children.
Zenith was great but don't look for a lot of nightlife compared to Carnival.

Food on Celebrity will be much better and service more refined and professional. No PA announcements hawking bingo, pool games and the like. Dressier and from what I've been reading, dress standards in the dining room is being enforced. A great size ship meaning you will get to know more of your fellow cruisers and the crew.

Robby:
I took the 14 day Zenith last Nov. and had a wonderful time. The average age was probably 60's. There were 11 kids under age 17!

The price was also great last year. I sail solo and the 14 days was a little over $1400. This year the price has gone up some though.

After midnight the ship is pretty quiet. They only had 2 or 3 bingo sessions due to little interest. I believe there are 6 days at sea (which I love) but if you can't entertain yourselves, just be warned. It is a pretty laid back sailing due to its length and time of year.

The staff and crew is fantastic and the food is 1st rate! On a sea day, they have about 60-70 activities scheduled, but they aren't as adventuresome as some you would have Carnival and the younger crowd. My Carnival days are over (I think) and I now look forward to no announcements, quiet talks with other experienced cruisers with great life stories to tell, quiet time to read, sit and watch the ocean roll by, etc.

Celebrity is a great cruise line. Hope you try it someday.

The crowd will be older but we are fun, too! Zenith is a wonderful little ship. Smallest of the Celeb line but the crew is wonderful! After a day or two it seems like everyone knows everyone else.

There are lots of activities, i.e. sporty things, movies, guest lecturerers, trivia, Win, Lose, or Draw, charades, Bingo (not too popular on our last three cruises), categories, etc.

And of course, there is the casino. If you go to the tables regularly, you will soon feel the staff knows you.

Do give Zenith a chance. i don't think you will be disappointed. It is much quieter than Carnival but much more refined and elegant, in a subtle way.

robbyxoxo .... What an absolutely wonderful time we had on this in January!

Like most winter 14-night cruises, the average age was in the 60's (late 60's ... but age is not the major factor ). On this cruise it was a very active and FUN group of folks -- lots of 50's and/or 40's as well -- many "who took early retirement" and an amazing number who were business owners. We totally "lucked-out" and had the most wonderful fellow passengers!

As long as you can deal with the lack of "late night" (after mid-night you turn into a pumpkin) YOU WILL LOVE IT!

Certainly one of our TOP 5 CRUISES !!!

Happy Sailing! OCruisers

Hello,

I started out with Carnival about 13 years ago when my son was 6. We did two on Carnival. Since then, my son and I have done about 15 cruises on Celebrity. My son is now 19. There is no comparison in service and food but Celebrity is older and quieter. My son always seems to enjoy himself. I am 50 and single, and I have a great time. As for the Zenith, she is a great little ship. I will tell you that a 14 night will have few kids and an older crowd, but you will always find people who want to have fun. Celebrity is a great value for the money and I think you would be hard pressed to get better value for your money. I am addicted..... can not even bring myself to try any other line!!!!!!

Me again,

I forgot to tell you I am booked on the Zenith for November7th. Is this the one you are considering. Let me know if you find any deals on pricing as I have time to change my booking. Anyone else on the November 7th sailing of the Zenith?

Hi duke of earl:
I have been watching the Nov.7th sailing for several months. The prices seem to rising instead of falling. But I do love the ship, the 6 days at sea, food, service, etc. aboard so I may end up booking it again this year.

I may wait until 90 days out in case some cancellations change the cruise rate.

Maybe I will run into you later on the boards! Good luck! Deb C.

thanks everyone for the positive responses....we are looking at a sailing in jan of 2005....we are quite looking forward to experiencing some change after 9 straight Carnival sailings.....I think we will be fine with the more subdued atmosphere....a couple other things i need to look into is the cabin sizes and possible stock credit....we will be booking a category 12 (cheapest cabins) and im not sure how small they will be and if they have bunk beds or what......Id also love if they give some sort of cruise $ credit for being a stock holder....I need to do some homework on that because im not even sure who Celebrity is owned by.....i know its not by Carnival....by RCCL maybe?....im sure lots of peeps know here...so ill keep my eyes open on the boards

Hi robbyxoxo,

This past March we were on the 14 night Zenith going east. The Celebrity rooms are not as large as Carnival, but you have plenty of room and storage space. I believe all of their rooms are 172 sq.ft. unless you get into the suites. On the other hand, you have to pay big bucks on RCCL (who owns Celebrity) to get even a decent size room. We love Celebrity and are booked on the Zenith for 2/27/05 going west. I know RCCL has a stock credit, but haven't heard that about Celebrity.

Happy sailing

p.s. The 1/2/05 sailing has some great pricing right now. Is that the one you're looking at? $930 for an inside cat 11 and you can still pick your room unlike a ROS.

Deb C...check those rates again, they look pretty darn good to me! If you booked lower than what they're advertising now, you did great!

robbyxoxo,

I was on the Zenith last Januaty too (HI O'cruisers!). It was great! Like ships said, the older folks are fun too. I'm 42 and had a ball. Jaxport is the best! I'm thinking about doing the same cruise/same cabin next January. I loved it!

We were on a 14 day Zenith last year and are going again in Feb. or in Jan. if I can ever get a straight answer out of Celebrity as to the scheduled Zenith drydock for Jan.
The cruise is great!! We do like the Southern itinerary over the Western.

100 shares of RCL stock will get you a $250 onboard credit Link

You will like the Zenith although it is a smaller ship. As for the onboard credit for stockholders, we received the credit after purchasing 100 shares of RoyalCaribbean just 2 weeks before sailing . . .faxed the form to RCCL and the credit was waiting for us on the ship. . .you can even use it for the tips. The only requirement was that the cruise was booked not later than March 31, 2004.

duke_of_earl,
Don't lie now! You're not 50, yet! Are you trying to get a senior discount? LOL!
Any 14 night cruise is going to have a little older crowd just because this is the age group who traditionally have the time to do it. That's also true of 10 to 12 night cruises, but you are also going to find a mix of 30ish (some) and 40ish(more) who have the time and means and love to cruise. The great thing about cruising is that you have something in common with everyone right off the bat...you all love what you're doing. Celebrity is going to be an upgrade in food and service for you, plus you're going to have some low key time on sea days. I like them the best! Give it a try!
I think you'll like it! I'm doing 14 nights 11/7 and I can't wait!

Hi robbyxoxo, we are also a younger (32/37)couple on the Jan 2, 2005 sailing.

So even though I am told by my travel agent that we would be one of the youngest on the boat, now I see we won't the only couple our age.

I love Celebrity. I can't even compare it to Carnival. Our Summit Cruise was dead after midnight, and I expect the same here. If this doesn't bother you, I would think you will be happy with Celebrity. I am.

robbyxoxo,

I just got a quote for 1,241pp (taxes, port, and all that other fun stuff) for a CC on Atlantic deck 10. I thought that sounded good....but not as good as yours. What agency did you book with? My name is my email address, don't think they like us talking about this sort of thing here.

Thanks,
David

Celebrity had this sailing (1-2-05) at $930.00 Any travel agent should be able to get better than that.

Tammy...i was thinkin the same thing about peeps our age bein on the ship....we will be the minority age group for sure...im really excited about this cruise now, but a lil scared about not knowing what to expect with a diff cruiseline.....we arent huge fans of older ships either.....but what we are hoping for is that the superior service and dining will make us smile.....we are cruising on the Carnival Miracle one month before the Zenith....so the change of pace is something we wanted....when sailing carnival ships less than a month apart you kinda lose that special feeling... cause everything is like same ole stuff.......looks like we will be early to bed and early to rise on the Zenith ....i think we will have now officially passed into the mid life territory ........Dmarch...email coming

It's not so bad here in mid life - some of us get to cruise more! I like the teak and brass rather than the plastic and neon. Much more elegant and soothing. I think you will like the change. Zenith is due for a refurb, but she is by no means shabby. And the crew is great.

Good job, we're checking ours daily for the price to go down or to best available.

We're not too proud to row!!!!

Pat (the other half of Wes)

CruznTom, do you have to buy the 100 shares at one time or just accumulate and then present the documentation they want for a total of 100?

You can buy it any way you want, but you can't use the credit until you can show a brokers statement with 100 shares. Then anytime you use the credit you send in your most recent brokers statement and the form from the investors page on the Celebrity site. That's it. Your credit will be added to your onboard account.

Some things sound too good to be true, but I believe you.

Thanks for the info. We're checking into it.

Happy sailing.
