Civitavecchia to Tarquinia

I am reading there is a bus that goes from right in front of the cruise port of Civitavecchia to the center of the town of Tarquinia. Is there a landmark at the cruise port that will help us locate that bus stop? I know the Shuttle from the ship to the port exit has changed somewhat. Can a fellow traveler please give us specific directions for how to find the bus to Tarquinia once we exit the ship?

It has been a few years since I went to Tarquinia, but if the stop is still where it was, it is pretty close to where the port shuttle drops you off to connect with the local bus to the train station. It was across from a church. I can’t remember the street. I’m sure someone will chime in with more up-to-date info. You may want to email the local tourism boards for specifics, as well as check out their websites. The info on the web says there's a bus by the Tarquinia InfoPoint. Not sure where that is these days, but check out https://www.facebook.com/infopoint.tarquinia You may be able to message them and ask where it is in Civitavecchia.

We absolutely loved our time there! We were on a long cruise and it was a turn around day and had to be back to the ship by 4pm or so. We thought it was the best way to spend our day. Everything about it was perfect.

I'm not sure I'd say that the bus is "right in front of" the cruise port drop off, but it's not far -- about a 10 minute walk according to Google maps.

I haven't done it myself, but I made a Google map using the coordinates euro cruiser provided for the new Civitavecchia drop-off point to the point where the Etruscan Tourism website recommends picking up the bus.

The map on the Etruscan tourism site is wrong because they are using the old port entrance point. However, if you click on the bus pick up point, you'll be able to find updated info on the bus schedule and cost:

It's right about there. That's the closest point I could easily map. If you get there, just look for the bus stop -- they usually have a sign that's pretty visible.

Is that from the OLD port entrance or the NEW port entrance (starting from 2014 season)?

You don't have to walk that far, there's a closer stop that you'd walk right past on the way. It's located on Via XVI Settembre (SS1), just north of the intersection with Via Raffaele Cadorna. If you make a google map and go the street view you'll see the edge of the bus sign (behind the IP sign) as well as the word "bus" painted on the street.

You can make a map and see the schedule on the Cotral web site if you use the following:

To: Tarquinia

Use a date in the upcoming week, the same day of the week that you'll be traveling and the time you think you'd be at the bus stop.

Click on "search routes" and wait. Sometimes you have to click on it several times before it kicks into action.

Can someone please pinpoint that location for me, for example the corner of blank and blank? We will be traveling in September. Is the new shuttle temporary or should it be the same in September? No one is sure about whether the changed port entrance is temporary or permanent, but it's looking more and more like it's permanent.

Thank you, Cruisemom and eurocruiser for clarifying. I know we will need to purchase the bus tickets in advance. Where would we purchase tickets to board the bus at this 16 Settembre bus stop location?

There is a newsstand at the corner of Via Punto Franco where you can purchase bus tickets.

Last summer at the port shuttle drop off point (that connects with the local bus), there was a man selling local transport tickets (e.g., local bus tickets, BIRGs). I don't know if tickets that you would need for Tarquinia are sold there, but it wouldn't hurt to ask before leaving that area. Also try contacting the local tourism office in advance for the closest point of sale.

You shouldn't have a problem finding a place that sells tickets. The Cotral web site lists a location just a block away from the stop, on Via XVI Settembre at the intersection of Via Lazzaretto.

If all else fails you can purchase a ticket from the driver. It's a flat fee of €7 per person if purchased on board.

I shall be in Civitavecchia beginning of October and have recorded all the instructions and guidance given. I have walked along the roads with the "little google man" so I know what the landmarks look like.
