Beverage Package Pricing Increase

Recommended Posts

I am only ugrading this time so I can sample some Molecular Cocktails as the Century did not have that bar.

Is it common for Celebrity to run out of alcohol with all the "free" beverage packs? or just in Australia and on the Xmas /New years Cruise we were on?

Have you not heard? They are phasing out the Molecular Bar, which was my reason to upgrade.

It is not common for them to run out, just sometimes they have a problem moving it from storage up to the bars. If they don't have what you want at one bar, go to the next.

Frankly, it appears there will be few bars to get a good old cocktail. With the "World Bar" a high end, and I understand not on either package place, replacing the Molecular Bar and the Passport being replace by the Gastro Bar, I have no idea where we will go. The Martini Bar is too packed and the Passport was great all afternoon and before dinner. I guess we will end up in the Rendezvous lounge, which was not my first choice. The casino bar is too loud. So, where do I end up? The Sky lounge?

Common Celebrity! What are you thinking?

I went in to upgrade on Monday and neither the TA or Celeb rep they called seemed to know nothing about the price increase.. I said I wanted to upgrade from the classic to the premium anyway as the increase was a fair bit dearer and of course their site was down and the rep said it had to be booked through the personilizer. So I left it with my TA and she booked it and charged me $218 for a 8 day cruise for my husband and I for the difference. We are in Australia so it works out at $13.60 per day difference.I still dont know the break up of it but that was the cost in Australian

I ugraded our 14 day a few days ago (we are in Oz. Also) and cost was AUD $12.90 + 18% which came to AUD $15.22 per person per day.

Was OK with that as AUD12.90 is reasonable for US10.00 conversion.

But compared to your AUD13.60 , did that include the 18%. Either way, cost seems t o fluctuate.

Ya know what, I can be creative within the package limits, that if the Co. Wants to make the 'custom' creations at the 'World whatever' out of the Premium limits, so be it. It will become just as dead and a under visited bar as the old concept was. Sometimes the people a corporation puts into a marketing or such position are so out of touch! A college degree don't mean they have the faintest concept of what us 60 plus old farts really are all about.

Ok, rant over, back to the regularly scheduled discussion.

I'm finding that many business continue to tweak the product until it becomes one that no one wants. Then a boffin gets a "great idea" which in reality is a version of the original product. And so we cycle.

Wallie and Pushka

There have been absolutely no hints even, from Celebrity or any cruisers currently on the Eclipse (the only ship that has the World Class Bar so far) about prices.

This is ALL fueled from rumors.

One person says "I'll bet it'll be over the price in the premium package" and then the next person says "I heard it will be over the price in the premium package", etc. , etc.

Hey, if you have the premium package and the world class bar is not, just pay the extra 1 or 2 dollars if the drink invites you. Not a big deal IMO.

That's a great price. Upgrade price is US $10 plus 18% = US $11.80. Current exchange rate is 1.28 which would make that AU $15.10. You got a bargain!

Thats true. Pricing would be a good idea. :p. Stops the rumours mostly. As long as the message is consistent.

I posted on the April 21st and May 7th Roll Calls and asked if someone could please just take a peek at the menus and report prices on the main Celebrity board.

I hope someone on one of those Roll Calls is Elite or Elite plus so they get free internet minutes.

If the price of their major offerings is over $13, they'll have a different problem....Celebrity already has some of the highest price bar drinks in the industry and it's pretty hard to justify $14 for a relatively basic drink made with the basic diagio offerings. Making mixed drinks with more expensive liquors is foo foo dust....because you can't taste the premium scotch in a rob roy, or even Ketel 1 over a house brand in a bloody mary. One also has to think about the folks who don't have any drink package (eg on transatlantics) and wonder how many will be paying $13.50+ plus 18% for drinks (visions of being able to read very quietly in that space during cocktail hour...)

My guess is that most of the drinks will be covered under the premium package limits with of course some the "higher quality" offerings that you drink straight...single malts, etc...being priced higher.

If on premium then there only will be the difference to pay. I'd expect the foo foo drinks to be fully covered just like Molecular. The only stuff I like is Baileys anyway. Not into the malts! And it won't be our go-to bar anyway.

Reflection 2013, Equinox 2014, we had only 2-3 from the old concept on ea cruise. There are a lot of options. We will see in 200'ish days!:D

But for tonight, a nice Ballast Point from San Diego to mellow the evening.

Looking at the recipe for the drink "Johnnie Walker Citrus Gold" one of the ingredients is Johnny Walker Gold Label. I do not see that on the list of scotches included in the package. Also, watching the video as they infuse Zapata with smoke would imply that the drink will cost more than usual.

Hopefully someone will post an actual price list soon.

THEN we'll have to find out if you only pay the difference in the premium cap and the cost of the drink or if you have to pay for the drink outright.

Yet another can of worms!

The list of alcohol brands included in the packages is just a guideline....the premium package covers all drinks up to $13 (plus gratuity) served on board. It's price based, not brand based.

Johnny walker gold is priced above johnny walker black at retail prices so it would be reasonable to expect it to cost more on board...and less than JW platinum or blue label. Personally, I'm not sure why anyone would put JW gold in a mixed drink other than selling "status"...but the price could justify some extra $'s.

Please see post 945. I posted the ingredients of the drink and the scotches on the package. If they don't match, you can assume that the price will be out of the package.

The next question will be, will they make the same drink with a "lesser" scotch so it is included in the package?

All this "Johnny Walker" talk has reminded me of something.

On our February Eclipse cruise there was a big Johnny Walker tasting and some kind of contest to win some bottles in the court area outside of the theater on Deck 3. I happened to stop by and actually wondered why they were making such a big deal out of one brand.

Methinks the switchover to this new alliance was already in the works last February.
