London to Portsmouth transportation??

Hello Silversea Travellers - we are booked on Explorer for the May 16th sailing out of Portsmouth. We are looking into our transportation options from London to Portsmouth. Does anyone have a prior experience to share? Is the train a viable option?

We sailed the same time last year - Portsmouth to Greenock. Maybe the same itinerary?

The train from Victoria to Portsmouth then a taxi to the dock and you are all set.

Try London Waterloo rather than Victoria to Portsmouth Harbour.Its faster.

Waterloo is somewhat faster, but the tickets also seem to be on the whole more expensive - some much more expensive. Some advance tickets were as low as 5 pounds from Victoria (just looked at a Saturday in April for example). It will probably depend on day of the week, time of day, transit cost to the station, convenience of Waterloo vs. Victoria, number of people traveling, budget, etc.

Budget might not be a concern given that it is a Silversea sailing but, depending on the other factors, no need to spend more than necessary.

We traveled the reverse, Portsmith to our hotel in London. And we were arriving on the Explorer. Say hello to Eva for us(from The Walkers). She is a great waitress. We walked out of the cruise terminal and were set to take a taxi to the train station. I believe you will want a first class ticket vs economy. Taxi driver asked us how much we paid for two tix to London, I said, 85 pounds, and he said he would drive us to our hotel for that. Not sure if you can get same deal from London to Portsmouth but it is worth asking the question once you get there.

He was a great taxi driver and very animated. Was worth his narrative alone.
