Civitavecchia station?

Last time we were at Civitavecchia we took the Cunard trip into Rome but this time we're thinking of the train. All I remember is a long drive around the port-the coach seemed to take us out the back or something-and totally missed the town. Does anybody know if there is an easy/walking way to get to the station from wherever they are going to berth the QM2 this year?

There is usually a port shuttle which drops passengers off near the fort. Walk to the station which is over to your right. There will be many others doing the same. Check if you need to validate your train ticket at machine on platform before boarding. The Birg ticket should include the metro in Rome.

Train fare was 12 euros return last time we were there? 2012....you must get your ticket validated in yellow box on wall of ticket hall...the fare includes metro tickets....Termini station is end of track where You can catch metro to Colosseum or other stations...s.Pietro station for Vatican and St Peters....trains are half hourly...

We've done this a couple of times by train and it's very easy - be warned though, it's quite a long walk to the platform to get back onto your train in Rome so allow plenty of time, and of course aim for at least the train before the last one that would get you back in time!! We took the HoHo bus from Termini station last time getting off at the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain and we had no problem getting back onto another bus.

We haven't been there with Cunard but the ship's we've been on have always got in very early so we've been able to get into Rome for an early start - if you want to go to St Peter's make sure you go there first to avoid the worst of the queues.

The Italian authorities don't allow passengers to walk from the ship to the port gate so you have to use the shuttle bus.

Have a great time

There are two ticket prices at the staion, make sure you take the 12euro ticket, it will give free bus and metro rides, you make your way through the sites from ST Peters and take the metro back to the main terminus.

trains run twice an hour and take 45 mons too St peters and an hour too return
