What Are The Best Cruise Lines For 55 And Older ??

I think that age is pefect for all of the cruise lines!

Celebrity would be the line if you want the cruise to be 55 and up. They are known for having good food. Most places onboard close at 10pm.

Holland America will have a slightly older crowd.

Royal Caribbean would be the choice if you want a wider age range and more options for entertainment.

Thanks for the reply....

I just returned 2 weeks ago from a cruise on RCCL ship " Oasis Of The Seas " ...

Will say that it did have more options for entertainment and I did see the older group :) For past cruises, I have been on (7 ) RCCL cruises and all were good. I rank Oasis as being the best for entertainment :D

I have not sail on any Holland America cruises...Did sail on (1) Celebrity

cruise about 4 years ago. I saw the older crowd. However, more

of couples and not much for anyone who was single. The food as I recall

was good and everthing was indeed formal and very elegant.

If you want a somewhat more formal experience, Cunard (Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth) would be a good choice. Lots of friendly, sociable people who can dress up without getting stuffy and pompous, and lots of nightlife after 10PM, even though the average age must be well over 55.

I also like Carnival and Royal Caribbean, but they're not specific for over-55. I personally prefer Costa, but unless you like dancing and a multi-cultural experience, it's probably not a good choice.

I won't go back on Holland America- I'm only 61, I felt too young and active to fit in. Only been on Celebrity once but got the same vibe.

Thanks for the reply and information....I had not thought about the more formal ships of the Queen's Mary, Victoria and Elizabeth. You mentioned Carnival and Royal Caribbean and I do agree that the crowd is somewhat under 55. However, there are singles cruising on the ships. I have not been on Holland America..As for Celebrity I cruised only one time and it's the much older group

I like a fun crowd and enjoy meeting people on cruises. What are your thoughts about the Hosted Single cruises and do you travel single/solo. ??

I usually cruise over the Christmas/New Years holidays (10+ days) because this is when I have a block of time off from work. I'm pushing 60 and find HAL friendly and relaxing. In the evenings I hit the piano bar, lounge shows, casino, or/and a movie so there is enough action for me.

Monoploy2, I'm wondering how you liked Oasis as a solo. I like trying the different cruise ships/lines and since the cruise industry keeps building bigger ships I guess I'll be cruising different ships. Faith

Hi Faith

In reply to the Oasis was great. You will meet people in the main dinning room, the lounges, bars, night time entertainments.. on excurisons and etc. There are several card/game rooms on the ship. Good place to meet single/solo. Also at the cruise critic meet & mingle. The main places are at night in the lounges and disco. During the day at the poolside, excerise room, jogging track, spa, onboard activities and etc.

The ship is big.. People are very friendly and didn't mind you coming along to join...I'm a friendly and out going person and is never lost for words in meeting people. I might add that there is a variety in age groups on the ship. You will see the over 60's on the ship

I too like to cruise on different ships...I'm thinking about going on the sister ship Allure next year( 2011)

I'm single, so that's how I travel. As it happens, I'm solo in the Adriatic this November, but I usually travel what you might call semi-solo, with various dance groups. I'm seated with them for dinner, and we dance in whatever lounge, but otherwise I don't see much of them.

I looked at one of the singles groups because I was already booked on the same ship as one of their trips, but they seemed too oriented to alcohol for my taste. Also, one of the women I met on a dance cruise mentioned she tried them a couple of times, but wasn't impressed. When I saw some of the group on the ship, there didn't seem to be anybody really interested in dancing.

Queen Victoria has "singles coffee" every sea day morning. I can't remember what QM2 had, it was several years ago; QE is brand new. Cunard is one of the few lines which still provides hosts for single women (but don't ask me for my opinion of their dancing ability).

Monoploy and Dancer Bob--it is good for me to learn more about what's going on in the cruising world. I really enjoy the smaller HAL sized ships--most people seem to be really friendly and open to chat. I also love the walk around the ship's open decks--I found myself walking, reading, and visiting with folks on most sea days.

Next year I'm hoping to try something new--a new itinerary and a new cruise line/ship. I have my eye on a Celebrity (Century) cruise (Pacific Northwest) from SD to Vancouver at the begining of the Alaska sailing season. Faith

Hi Faith

I sailed on Celebrity( Mercury) in 2007 on a 7-Days Alaska Cruise ..It was a good cruise and so beautiful to see the glaciers. All I could do is say Wow!!! and take pictures :) The ship ( Mercury) was very nice. It's a ship were you will indeed see the over 55 group. At that time they were still having the midnight buffet...The main dining room was a glow:), For me I had never seen something so beautiful. The ship was very much in good taste and elegant for dining. My future plans is to do another Alaska cruise.. There is still a lot more for me to see

I have heard alot about Hal cruise ship. However, I have not been on any of their cruises. Will look at Hal cruise for 2012.
