carnival cabins to avoid

Just got back from my cruise on the Valor. I took the guarantee option and was assigned cabin 8445, which is on the back of the ship just under the rear pool area. It was the cabin from hell. The sound of deck chairs being dragged across the deck above me sounded just like thunder. There seemed to be someone moving the chairs night and day. Apparently Carnival didn't bother to put any sound deadening between the decks. I would avoid all cabins on the back half of varandah deck unless you are a very deep sleeper.

You can add cabin 7197 on the Spirit. I had a whole thread going about the icemaker located back to back with this cabin.

Uh oh!!! That's been a concern of mine since I even managed to pay attention to where the location of our cabin is. We're going to be at 8347 in the center of all of the action. I've heard both sides of the story. Some good. Some bad. Hopefully I'll be able to report a positive story.

Please say you at least had a good cruise. :)

Looks like 8347 is under a bar. hope it works out for you.

When I choose a cabin, I make sure it is always above and below cabins and away from elevators.

For example, when booking 4 balcony cabins, we could have taken a free upgrade to an 8D, but chose to hand pick two 8B and two 8C cabins. No surprises that way.

I have never had any cabin surprises.

Be wary of some of the AFT cabins on deck 6 (Conquest class ships) as a few are directly above a lounge - with an audible THUMP THUMP THUMP until the wee hours. Those cabins which are FULLY aft don't appear to have a problem - but several cabins forward of those can have this problem. Our son was in an interior (6471 or 6475) and the noise could not be missed (or easily dismissed!)

Cabin 6418 (balcony) on Glory is one. Directly over Bar Blue and the band played almost every night until midnight. Could also hear the applause and cheering of the audience.

Well I too had NO love of my AFT cabin on the Valor 7449. We sailed in 2005 and took the AFT because I had never had an AFT cabin and two because of all the people that told me it was best place to be on the ship. Yes, I loved watching the wake in the water as we sailed along and I also enjoy the high seas duriing our last day at sea during (Katrina). What was aweful was the cigarette butts on the balcony floor in the morning, the ice cream cones I found now and then and the pice of pizza which landed nicely on our lounge chiar. Despite all that we loved the Valor and had a great time.

It is to bad that Carnival can not put plexiglass up across the back of those areas so idiots can't throw things overboard onto the balconies.

This is a great idea for a thread. Cabins you do not want!!!!

Last year on the Conquest we booked a 1A guarantee and a 4A guarantee. We were "upgraded" to adjoining 6A's; cabins 1393 and 1395. While we loved having the adjoining cabins, we did not love the noises we heard all hours of the night. It sounded like someone was dragging metal shelves all over the place below our cabins. Other times it sounded like a cabin full of water was being let out of the space below us. I asked the Purser's desk what was going on below us and they "himhawed" around. We never did find out what it was.

Stay away from Conquest cabins 1393 and 1395!!!!

That is just disgusting and horrible! I can't believe that happened to you I am sorry! We had a balcony on the Miracle and no problems but now that starts to worry me a little...really I can't believe people do that! They DO say NOT to throw cigarettes overboard as they could cause a fire...maybe you had one horrible family or something I dont know because there are ashtrays everywhere and you don't even have to clean up your own food just leave it so why are people wasting time throwing things overboard! Terrible!

Is there a way to tell on the deck plans where the ice makers are?

There's an ice maker next to cabin 2418 on the main deck of the Triumph. If you look at the deck detail, it's in one of those white areas that are next to/behind cabins. I'm not sure if that's how all of them are......but maybe.

Hi, I normally stay on the Rivera Deck because it is so quite down there. BUT, I was on he Miricle last year and booked the Rivera Deck without looking at the deck plan. I ended up under the casino. We heard high heals and carts all night. I learned a good lesson from that. I now look at the deck plan and try to get sandwiched between two floors with rooms above and under. BUT, I didn't think about the elevator. I'm booked close to one on the Valor in March. I will let you know how it turns out. P.S. Loved the cruise on the Miricle anyway. All the noise in the world could not have spoiled my cruise. Just go with the flow.

We were directly by the elevator on Liberty (same class of ship) in room 9274. Lido deck is usually one of the busiest, and we had no noise problems whatsoever, other than the occasional exhuberant child. We thought this was a great location, very convenient. I loved not having to use the public bathrooms on the ship!

We have never had a problem with being near the elevators, they have a wall that seems to block things, I am concerned however as to where the ice makers are. We are booked on 7406 and 7408 on the Freedom. They are near the elevators, but also a white block area just in front of us, Could that be the Ice machine?

Also, can anyone tell me how to find out where the self service laundry room is? Thanks!

Once again Carnival corporate Executives have demonstrated their lack of regard for the health, safety and comfort of their passangers. Carnival's formal response to my complaint, outlined below, was consistent with and equivelent to Carninval President Dickinson's previously published reference to the missing RCCL passenger as "..a none event". Carnival failed to acknowledge the basis of my complaint and responded in form letter, as if I was making a comment on a service issue. BEWARE SPIRIT AFT Balcony HEALTH HAZZARD

Sent: Monday, January 22, 2007 (via email and fedex direct delivery including a collected sample of the soot described below )

Dear Mr. Dickinson,

Having just returned from our 15th Cruise (our EIGHTH on Carnival), I must inform you that I remain unconvinced that Carnival’s Corporate leadership maintains passenger health safety and comfort in very high regard.

I am specifically referring to numerous complaints of copious amounts of black soot dropping unto the balcony of our stateroom 8277 (as well as that of our traveling companions in 8272) which I presented to the Spirit Purser staff beginning the fourth day of our cruise (including an initial SOOT sample which I had I collected in a plastic baggie on Friday) and continuing through the last day of the cruise. The only formal response I received was the attached FORM letter referencing only one of my written comment/complaints (ref # 001948298A). Although I did speak directly to the Ship’s Environmental Officer, Gianni, (and him provided a second SOOT sample which I had again collected in a plastic baggie) ) on two separate occasions, he could neither explain the cause of this disgusting situation, nor offer any assurance that it would be resolved during the course of our Cruise.

More importantly, after I cited my wife’s Cancer survivor status as well as my own health concerns as a post 9/11 NYC recovery official, (Gianni could or would not explain any of the possible health related effects resulting for being exposed to this soot (I do have one remaining soot sample which I collected on on the last afternoon of our cruise, I will gladly share it with your offices, assuming the ship’s personnel have not done so).

Suffice it to say that despite the fact that we severely curtailed our use of the balcony and certainly ceased to eat or drink out there, the fact that we had done so during the initial soot downpour occurrence on Thursday as well as on the second occurrence on Friday, the damage appears to have been done. Both my wife and I as well as our traveling companions, have been coughing insecently since those initial exposures.

Although this disgusting situation had significantly limited our enjoyment of a cruise amenity for which we paid a high premium (an aft balcony) my greatest concern is the lack of attention to my numerous complaints and the cavalier attitude in which they were (not) addressed. This is a shame because what could have otherwise been a wonderful cruise (the best Dining room and Housekeeping staff as well as BEST Cruise Director EVER!! and apart from some minor multiple incidents with non-flushing toilets and two out of three unsatisfactory excursions -which we called to Excursion Director's attention) was completely marred by this disgusting situation.

We do enjoy cruising and have certainly enjoyed AFT balconies in the past and hope to do so in the future, but regrettably NOT aboard Carnival.

Don't book a cabin under the gym, either. Our friends did that once, and all of the weight-lifting maniacs were in the gym early every morning dropping the weights on the floor. Thud, thud, thud.

I am really sorry to hear you had such a bad experience! I had 8273 on the Spirit in Alaska in August, and had no soot. I went prepared to see some, having read a few posts on the subject here, but lucky for us, we did not have any to speak of. Hope you and your wife are feeling better.
