Default RCCL's Oasis OTS Accessible Cabin warning

Recently returned from a trip aboard the Oasis of the Seas where my DM & DS were booked into an Accessible Ocean View Balcony cabin.

DM has cruised before on the Radiance OTS and on a Princess ship. The accessible cabins on all three cruises for her were more than adequate, although there is one huge thing missing from accessible cabins on the Oasis OTS - automatic doors! DM has a balance issue (she has none) and walks with a rolling walker or, in cases where a walker won't do, walks with two canes. While on cruises, she rents an electric scooter to go anywhere outside of the cabin. The accessible cabin on the Oasis has all of the usual accessible amenities, including an extra wide (thus, extra heavy) door, but no way for my DM to open it whether entering or exiting. She mentioned to DS and myself that she felt like a prisoner in the cabin if DS was not there and would call my stateroom, which was down the hall but luckily on the same floor, to see if we could go to wherever she needed/wanted to go together.

I posted this on the RCI portion of these boards and got a response from another poster that this was also true of Freedom OTS and that the only class to have automatic door openers for accessables on RCI were the Radiance class of ships. Please be aware of this huge problem for those needing this type of cabin.

This must be more than an oversight on RCI's part, as these ships would surely have been retrofitted by now. Too bad - my DM will not be cruising RCI in the future.

I, myself think that there must be some kind of a problem. With them on a ship that has them they NEVER seem to be working. I dont know the problem but they never seem to fix them. Maybe its just a low priority because there are so few of them. Not right but everyone knows we come last.

Thing like this, should be brought to the attention of customer relations for the cruise line, if not the CEO, for a better chance of action!!!!!!!!!!

OP - my mom cruised on Star Princess in November and that ship didn't have the auto doors for the cabins. You might want to mention that to your DM since that is an important criteria for her choice in ships. That is the only Princess ship that my mom has been on so I can't speak for any others in the fleet. I'm only mentioning it because you said your DM has sailed on Princess before and had auto doors.

I have been on several Princess cruises and have never had an automatic cabin door although I do remember some automatic doors from the inside to the outside although not every door was so equipped.

Hi, been on Sea Princess,Grand Princess, Azura and Ventura none of these have auto doors on w/c accessable cabins and are not aware that any of the 2 lines mentioned have any ships that do?
Don't think you will get the companies to fit auto doors on cabins, they won't even put drop down rails in w/chair acessable cabins. But who knows if enough people get together and voice their concerns etc; then maybe they will, thats why i would ask all members to support the post - "making our voices heard".

The only line I've cruise with auto doors was RCI....been on a number of Princess and Carnival accessible cabins and didn't have auto doors. Anyone know if the Navigator of the Seas has auto doors....I am sailing in 3 weeks.

No auto doors on RC's Explorer or Adventure. Since Navigator is also a Voyager class, I don't think it will have any.

The only ships of RC's that I know have auto doors are Radiance, Serenade and Jewel. I think Brilliance also has them since it's a Radiance class ship but I wasn't on that one with my mom and didn't pay attention to the accessible cabins that we went past.
