Luggage Question

I am leaning toward purchasing my own airfare instead of using the cruise air.

The thing is: I will leave from my hometown at 7:40 PM and arrive in Washington DC on US Air.

We then have an eleven hour layover which we plan on getting a hotel room near the airport.

Next flight leaves at 8:15 AM on American airlines.

Will we have to collect our luggage or will it be automatically transfered to American, even though there is an overnight layover?

Anyone know?

Thanks!

You will have to collect your luggage and recheck it in the morning. USAir and AA generally don't have an interline baggage agreement and AA certainly won't hold the luggage overnight.
