Easiest way is to go to the closest Brazilian Embassy/consulate and apply in person. Take your passport, photos and a MONEY ORDER (they don't take credit cards, personal checks or cash). This method may be prohibitive IF you are not close to and Embassy/Consulate.

You may also apply by mail (USPS EXPRESS MAIL ONLY-no FedEX, DHL, UPS). Forms are available at the Brazilian embassy website. You also MUST apply to the correct Consulate. Find the Consulate for YOUR state. You also need to send either a copy of your DL or a utility bill showing your current address to prove you are applying to the correct Consulate.

OR you can use one of the visa services. Cruise lines seem partial to Zierer, although I find their info laughable for anything OTHER than a simple visa Zierer s****d me out of a Princess Asia cruise-waited too long to tell me they COULD NOT get me multi entry Chinese visa and I lost all deposits on the cruise. Zierer is also VERY expensive for their fees. There are many visa services-ask your TA or do a Google search.

Good point Keith. We used TDS and it took 9 days from the time we sent everything off until the time we received everything back.

After reading some of the "horror" stories posted on CC about applying in person, we took Patti's advice and used TDS. Worked like a charm. I believe it took 10 days for us to get our passports back. We live about 150 miles from the LA Consulate, so we would have to drive 600 miles, they don't do a one day service, and with current gas prices, gas alone would cost us around$80, TDS was a bargain.:D

Have a question regarding what paperwork others have submitted when applying for the Brazil visa. The LA and SF Brazil consulate websites indicate you need a cruise itinerary with the passengers names. The invoice we have from our Travel Agent has booking numbers, names etc but no itinerary. The Royal Caribbean website has an itinerary you can print out but our names are not on it. Does anyone know if this will work?

We got our visas through the SF Consulate via TDS. We got our TA to send us a letterheaded confirmation of the cruise with itinerary, dates, confirmation # and of course, our names.:) We also had them send us a copy of our airline schedule with booking # etc. We had no problems.

We did the same. RCI will definitely provide you an invoice on their letterhead that shows not only your charges but your itinerary on the bottom.

Thanks everyone...our TA has agreed to add the itinerary to our invoice which has the other information already on it.

What are the disadvantages of applying in person to get the VISA. We are thinking we may drive to Atlanta to get ours. We would combine this trip for the VISA with a visit with the grandchildren who live in Atlanta.

The itinerary we have has our names, dates of the cruise, days of the week of each stop, payment information on Carnival letterhead. It is the guest confirmation that Carnival sends out when booking. It does not have the dates of each stop... only the dates of the cruise and the week day of each stop..... what do you think????

As far as I know, there is no consulate for Brazil in Atlanta. If you apply in person you must go to the consulate that supports your state. In your case that would be Miami.

Atlanta now supports NC, SC, TEnn, Miss, GA and SC. Miami only Fl, USVI and PR.

The new Consulate General of Brazil in Atlanta is open to the public and process documents for residents of the following States: Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi and Tennessee (previously under the jurisdiction of the Consulate of Brazil in Miami).

libby, that's good to know.

We have known folks who have applied in person. My only advice is to make sure you know how the process works. (eg,. do you drop it off and pick it up later that day or do you pick it up the next day, etc.). Maybe their web site indicates this and if not see if you can call. Also, be sure to fill out the visa application precisely in full and they way they ask from the printing to the color of the pen.
