What things are there to do walking distance from pier? Any good beaches nearby? Thanks any info is helpful.

You could walk through Roseau to the Botanic Gardens. The best/closest beach to Roseau would be at Mero. It's black sand and a good hour drive from the port.

Hey FINS UP ...My hubby and I are on the same cruise as you are. I started a Roll call, but there's no one else on there :(, come and check in.

I've read that Dominica really isn't the beachy-ist island. We're still looking for something to do too.

There are 9 active volcanoes in Dominica. It receives 350 inches of rain per year.

The beaches aren't the attraction, its the insanely beautiful and lush rainforrest and undersea life.

Dominica is about rainforest and waterfalls.

You want beaches? That's St.Maarten, Antigua, Barbados --but not Dominica!

Suggest you go thru the Memorable Dominica pics thread and get some idea of what it's like.

You'll notice there are very few beach pics for this island.
