Default On-board Credits/Casino Credits

If I purchase the on board credits, do they put them on your account or do you get a piece of paper in your stateroom?
Do they charge you a surcharge to cash it in?
I was trying not to bring alot of cash but found out they also charge a surcharge to cash travelers check also so was trying to see what would be best and these sounded like the way to go unless they put them on your account.
Thanks

Are you sure about the Travelers Checks?? I cannot imagine how they can surcharge you. On board credits purchased go onto your account.

They will be put on your account, no vouchers. As you charge they will be subtracted from your account.

Unless this is a new policy, NCL does not charge anything to cash travelers checks. I've used them at the casino cage and the front desk.

If you are talking about cashing in OBC for cash for casino use, yes - you will get charged the 3% fee at the casino desk - pre-purchased OBC goes directly to your on board account, and then you can charge to your account at the casino cashier to take out the cash, and the fee is charged there. Casino vouchers are also available, and they are different - these are placed in your stateroom and you cash them in directly at the casino cashier with no fee - but they are limited to one of each denomination per person. Hope this is the answer you were looking for! PS - the 3% fee was not being charged on European itineraries as of at least June, so if you are sailing there, the fee should not apply, and therefore, you can get cash from your onboard account at the casino for no fee.

Be aware that there's likely a limit to casino credit you can pre-purchase, too. They realize that's the next logical thing people might try, to avoid the 3% charge.

On the other hand, there has been $0 in fees for cashing travellers cheques.

On the Star last year, I had purchased $1200 in OBC. I still had to give them a credit card at check-in as they had no record of my OBC. There were vouchers in my cabin that I had to sign & take to the Purser's Desk. The 2nd day of the cruise they showed up in my on board account.

There is no charge to use the OBC for purchases, but as another poster stated, if you want cash from the casino, there is a 3% fee. The front desk will not give you cash. If you don't use all of your OBC they mail a check to your home address, approximately 2-3 weeks after your cruise.

With all the hassles I had, I will just plan on the credit card for on-board account and I will just take cash and pay off the account when I leave the ship. No more trying to pre-pay.

Default Thanks for the information

I want the majority for the casino, last cruise was the first that I had to pay the 3% and did not want to do that. I must have misread another question on the travelers checks so will just get them so I can cash them. I do not mind spending and having fun on the cruise but try to save when I can... more for the casino!!
Thanks for all the info as always..
