Help convince my husband

Hello all!

I've cruised 5 times but never on DCL and I really want to. I am married with 3 kids and I know we would have a blast. My problem is my DH!! He loves to cruise and is a big fan of the casino. (He loves to gamble a bit on vacation because he never does during regular life). Of course DCL doesn't have one and he refuses to book one. My 40th birthday is in May 2016 and I would love to do one then. It is MY birthday after all 😉.

What other adult entertainment would entice him onboard? He has few interests so that makes it hard and he can't justify the cost of taking this cruise when he won't have his favorite thing to do on board. Is there anything any of you really enjoyed? What makes it so expensive compared to other lines? Help me convince my husband to try it... Please. Thanks in advance!!

We were also not wanting to book Disney cruise because there was no casino on board. However, we sucked it up for the kids. We would now rather do a Disney cruise because you actually focus on your family and there is sooooooo much to do. There are separate adult only pools and restaurants if you need the break. There is a spa etc. If you really need a a casino, some ports have them.

There are a couple things that result in higher costs on DCL. The first is the absence of the casino! Other lines make money from people's casino losses which provide a price break for those who don't gamble. The other is the kid programming--it is a much more comprehensive program with longer hours than on most other lines and there are no fees for any of the kid programming for ages 3-17. Again, some other lines charge for late nights, etc. Quite frankly, the higher base fare for adults subsidizes the kid programming...but since you have 3 children who would potentially use the programming, you're going to get your money's worth out of that!

DCL has a large selection of activities for families, adults only, and kids only. We LIKE that it doesn't have a casino. It is much more family oriented than some other lines we've cruised.

The other thing that will hurt you is being a family of 5. The newer ships do have more options for larger groups than the classic ships though.

As noted...if DH has to have his casino, he can find them in some of the ports.

I can completely relate to missing a casino on a cruise. I love to gamble and know I will miss it on our Fantasy cruise, however the ship truly seems to be the most incredible one out there and I can not wait to go on it. One suggestion could be is to try and buy your husband off. Promise him that he can take a weekend trip to a casino sometime after you get back as long as he behaves and has a good time  And you can sell it that then he can gamble as long as he wants when he is there without feeling any guilt for missing some family time.

Since it is your 40th birthday- you should choose. We enjoyed Disney, especially if you children are under 12 years old. Honestly, it if you are not traveling with young children and are not Disney Freaks- you might not love it. We love cruising- not big fans of the casino, but our adult children are Disney freaks- so the vacation was fun! I think everyone should consider a Disney cruise- at least once! It is your birthday! Happy Birthday!! Enjoy

If he truly objects, the Oasis or Allure of the Sea's is a wonderful choice for families of all ages! It does have a casino and wonderful adult and children facilities.

Enjoy!

We just returned from a Disney Fantasy cruise three days ago. We are in our mid to upper 70's and have cruised about 24 times, mostly on Celebrity. We just wanted to go this one time on a DCL cruise. Well, we booked another while on board! It's something I can not put into words, but it is very special. The service in beyond wonderful. The adult areas are lovely for just relaxing, but we never got to use them because we were always busy. I can only tell you that it's the first cruise we smiled all week and no one seemed crabby or out of sorts with anything. It was plain wonderful and you should celebrate your birthday in the way you choose. Good luck!

  • 4 weeks later...

1) your husband will save money from not gambling on ship!

2) Disney has the best kids programs, and since you have 3, and its your birthday,,,,,,

3) Disney has the laxest rules of bringing alcohol on ship in your carry on! Check CC for rules!

4) Most all the ports have casinos if he really needs to gamble!

5) of the regular cruise lines, Disney has the best free food!

6) of all the private cruise islands only Disney has a pier!

Good Post! If the ship stops at Nassau, the casino in Atlantis is a nice one.

And Castaway Cays is the best private island IMO!
