Question Struggling to find Cruise Insurance

Not sure if anyone can help, it's driving me mad. My sister and I have booked a cruise with Celebrity for January 2014. She is a UK resident, I am a Spanish resident (UK citizen). The insurers recommended on the Celebrity.co.uk website cannot offer us insurance as they only deal with UK residents. Several other well known companies also have the same requirements. We could each take out our own individual insurance from 2 different companies in our own country of residence, but for cancellation cover we need to be on the same insurance policy as if one of us has a problem before the sail date we would need to jointly cancel. Anyone have any helpful ideas please?

By any chance, do you both have the same insurance company for your homeowners or automobile insurance? If so, talk to your insurance agent. Many insurance companies that provide homeowners and auto insurance also have travelers insurance. Even if you don't both have insurance with the same company, it couldn't hurt to ask your agent for some helpful suggestions.

Are you sure about the need for the same insurance company?

In the event of your travelling companion having to cancel - other than for a known pre-existing medical condition - most policies cover your cancellation regardless of that companion's insurance. It's much the same as having to cancel because of a serious illness to a close relative who isn't travelling with you - broadly you are covered unless that was a known pre-existing & undisclosed illness.

Time to go through the policy wordings.
How's your spanish?

Thanks folks.

JB, I hadn't thought of that. I was assuming that the policies needed to be connected, but what you say does seem to make sense. We have booked a fly/cruise package including one night pre-cruise in a hotel and as far as I can see in my online details the hotel and flight are not booked yet. I know the cruise can be cancelled without problem until the date of final payment so maybe I can stop worrying for a while and if I cannot find an insurance we can both take then individual ones should be ok. Fingers crossed.
p.s. Spanish is not very good.

I agree 100%. Just be sure that you meet the policy's definition of a "traveling companion" which I'm sure you do assuming you are sharing a cabin. With some plans you have to be sharing a cabin, with others you just have to have your reservations cross-referenced in Celebrity's res system.
