Renting a car from FLL returning to MIA

Hi all, we will be flying into FLL in November for cruise out of POM. Arriving several days early, renting a car to go down to the Keys and then we'd prefer to return the car to MIA prior to the cruise. I've used Enterprise before with a family discount in other areas but it appears they are very expensive with the return to a different site in Miami. Looking online there are a couple rental companies (I think it was Budget and/or Dollar) that don't charge extra for the rental return to MIA. Has anyone had any experience with this? Any preferred rental companies that don't charge an arm and a leg to return to a different site? Thanks.

If using Budget, use the downtown location (P2F). Budget and Avis shuttle from their SE 2nd St locations (next door to each other) to the ship. The shuttle is painted with both the Avis and Budget logos.

For Dollar and Thrifty, use the location labeled Port of Miami. These 2 companies actually shuttle to and from their airport location. Just like the aforementioned companies, Dollar and Thrifty use the same shuttle painted with both logos.

This information was accurate as of 2-3 weeks ago, as we used a one-way Budget rental pre-cruise to the downtown location, and a one-way Thrifty rental (from the airport) for our return after the cruise June 5-9. In both cases, the shuttle was free if you use the correct location.

Check out Alamo as well. Has the free shuttle, prices are not too bad plus you get to skip the counter.

National, Alamo & Thrifty offer free shuttles between MIA airport and POM - show the driver your receipt or reservation papers -- thus saving you the "fun" of driving in downtown Miami, ;)

Great questions I am doing the same thing picking up a car in FLL and driving to Islamorada and then returning it to Miami cruise port. Returning the car on sailing day for Carnival Victory in October. I found Dollar to the best price at about $35. Will be picking up a car at Miami cruise port and returning to FLL the following day, best price was from Budget for about $60. Hope you have great weather while in the Keys.

Just to be clear for others on this board, there are no car rentals at POM - suspect you are picking up in downtown Miami (close to POM).
