QE Casino & Single Cabin Pics

These photos have been captured from a recent Cunard video of the QE refit.

I'm not sure how I feel about the casino now. It's small and narrow, and no more bar or windows. There used to be a nice quiet sitting area by the windows. The chairs for some of the gaming tables are actually in the atrium area. Tight squeeze!

The new single cabins look great, but I still don't understand why they don't go on sale until December??

Lastly I much prefer the new larger flat panel TV screen. The old one was like looking at a computer monitor. I wish the same was done during the QM2 refit.

Thanks for the pictures. Boy the casino sure is small! And the chairs edging out into the atrium area; how awful looking! On the second picture, from across the atrium...are those slot machines in the Golden Lion or what?

First cabin pic is a standard, not a single. It was to show the new large flat panel TV's.

I hope they have added HD content for the big flat panel TVs. Low quality SD on a big LCD screen looks bad.

And it looks like the entire lower area has been turned into casino space - look beyond the stairs in the first photo and you can see some more sot machines.

Will be interesting to see what they have done to The Golden Lion as Well.

Suppose they will do the same to QV at some stage and also remove the Chart room from her, for Britannia Club Dining which in my opinion will be a shame.

No HD Content and it does look bad.

I hooked up my portable Blu Ray player and that looked Very Good.

The furnishing in the single cabins appear to be very sparse. It kinds of looks like an after thought with a dressing table and then a stilly round table and then a set of drawers in the corner.

Nothing very appealing about that cabin! Most retrofit cabins encounter problems, I'm guessing these single cabins will be tested for awhile before being sold. Just ask HAL about their leaky cabins on the Rotterdam & Veendam.

Most cruise lines are now operating revenue first, passengers comfort second.

The noise from the casino's slot machine must be terrible.

The outside singles are priced the same as an outside double including the 75% single supplement.

That is just plain crazy!

It was good to see the photos. They look better than I had feared. The real thing missing for me would be an armchair! I need to rest so an armchair is essential. When I joined friends on an MSC cruise last year, I found it very difficult without an armchair. Size-wise, this cabin is probably very much like a standard MSC Oceanview. It's also like the top-of-the-range Oceanview I had on the Emerald Princess. (The obstructed view ones were bigger than the unobstructed!) The room is therefore liveable for those who spend time out of their rooms.

I still think the pricing is ridiculous. And I see nothing that makes it specifically 'single'. Couples on other ships manage in this size rooms.

The new staterooms are about the size of many on other ships that are intended for two (my next one on HAL is about the same size) but if I am going to pay the same as a regular oceanview, I want the larger space. I really enjoyed the small sofa in my stateroom and would miss having it. They could have put a decent armchair in the space of that chest of drawers by the window (the desk chairs are not real comfy:eek:).

Looks can be deceiving. That closet is not deep enough to hang a suit jacket, I'm guessing they must be hung front to back.

The one advantage of the new single outside cabins is the giant window. It's much larger than the window in the standard outside cabins as the windows used to be part of the casino.

Behind the wall of slot machines in the casino, there is now a corridor, which is where the doors to the new single cabins are located. So, between the back of the slot machines, you have:

1 - A wall.

2 - A corridor.

3 - Stateroom wall and door.

So, I can't really see there being much of a problem with slot machine noise, not noise from the bar. All be it, it would not be my choice of location on a ship as I prefer to be away from public areas, but just curious if I have the layout right in my head for the corridor and entrance to the staterooms?

That is the way I envision it but there is one inside stateroom that must back up to the casino, lifts or Queens Room. The OV rooms are right below the Promenade deck which might provide some noise.

Thanks for the photos. Are the solo-cabin bathrooms the same size as regular cabin bathrooms? I might be willing to give up some real estate in the bedroom area, but I wouldn't want to trade-off on a smaller bathroom.

The placement of the large screen TV looks like you could walk your shoulder into the corner of it as you go by.

They could put a chair where the small round table is placed in front of the window. I guess as a single you could just sit on the bed.

The chest of drawers could be made into a cabinet with shelves over what appears to be the minifridge.

One thing I just remembered also is that on formal nights they would take pictures of you on that staircase right there by the casino. (That area is nice for pictures and we do like having some taken in our formalwear). We have one on our desktop and looking at that picture you would be able to see casino machines in the background or in other pictures the chairs (edging into the atrium) would be in the picture. They may have to rethink using that staircase now.

Which part of Queen Mary? The Third Class Library and Cinema? The (shared) toilets and baths down the passageway? The lino floors everywhere? The rolling even in moderate seas? No theatre?, Lack of communication with the outside world (only expensive 'phone calls for the super-rich), etc...

If you want to compare basically the 2nd class rooms of an Olympic class is in the same category as the inside state rooms of a cruise ship, since there are no dorms in a modern crusie ship, I was commenting on the cabins which look like something from a barracks, the public areas look OK. As for Cunard my impression was that it was marketing itself as a premium cruise line, a step above HAL and Celebrity. And as for me I can live perfectly fine in an Olympic class ocean liner in a 2nd class cabin as long as I get to count the number of lifeboats first.
