How early can you check in luggage in Southampton?

Hi all

We are booked on Crown Princess departing Southampton this saturday (10th August). Our flight down from Edinburgh arrives in Southampton at 8am. Can we go straight to the terminal to check our luggage in for the cruise this early. We would then go explore Southampton until arriving back for boarding after lunch time.

If not, does the cruise terminal have a left luggage facility we could use?

Any help from anyone in the know would be great. We don't want to have to drag our bags all around Southampton.

Many thanks

G

There's been talk of introducing an early-baggage drop but I don't think it's been implemented. Someone (or Princess in Southampton, non-premium number tel 02380 655000) might know differently.

With a flight arrival at 8am you'll be in the city centre by about 9am, way too early to register - that'll be 11am at the very earliest.

If going airport to city by taxi, you could get dropped at the De Vere Grand Harbour hotel. Same cost as to the cruise terminal, about £20. They will store luggage for non-residents at £5 per bag, and they're right by the old town district, the West Quay Mall & the Above Bar shopping street. (you can take aboard Princess 2 bottles of wine per cabin plus soft drinks to drink in your cabin).

Alternatively store your bags at http://www.oceans-southampton.com/ which is a new venture on Southampton's High Street, equally convenient, similar cost, but don't open til 9am.

Taxi from either Grand Harbour or High Street to Mayflower terminal will cost about £5.

You can go airport to Southampton central rail station by train, about £4 pp, train every 10 - 15 mins. takes 10 mins. From Central Station the De Vere Grand Harbour is a 15 min walk with rolling luggage in decent weather, or about £5 by taxi.

Or there's a McDonalds near the station if you want to just wait it out, or an Asda for a good value breakfast (+ groceries, wine, soft drinks etc) - its rear entrance (avoids a hill) is via a lift in the multi-storey carpark opposite the coach station - a level 6-minute walk from the rail station.

Mayflower terminal is further than it looks, well worth a taxi hop from anywhere in the city.

Hi John

Many thanks for this. It is extremely helpful. We will head into Southampton and store bags there.

Thanks again
