Bug Repellents

Away from the coast, in rural areas, there's the famous Scottish midge....tiny things which descend in a cloud. They are about in the daytime, but hunt more at twilight. There's also the occasional mosquito, which will bite but they're harmless. Again, they're more active in the evenings. You could find one or two on your excursions anywhere in the UK/Ireland, but they seem to shy away from sea water. I always have a couple of bites showing, in a secluded valley, but when I lived by the sea it hardly ever happened! ;)

Hi Gwilli

The only thing that will defeat a Scottish Midge is a good Single Malt Whisky, preferably from the Island of Islay such as Laphroig, Lagavullan, Bowmore, Ardbeg etc do not spray it on just drink it preferably in large measures then you will have no problems. Enjoy your cruise and very many welcomes to Scotland.
