I'm going solo on October 13th, first cruise to Nassau. So far there are no solo's on my Roll Call. Anyone on this forum booked? I'm a little nervous about the freestyle dining. I have always gone on ships with traditional, and have met great people in the dining room. I'm hoping that I'll meet people to eat with at the solo gatherings in the lounge.

I'll be solo (my first time and first time on a cruise) on NCL Breakaway this Sunday 6/16! I'm so excited... and I'm sure my nerves will kick in as I'm driving to the pier.

Hope you have a great cruise. Come back and tell us all about it.

Hope you have a wonderful time, smooth sailing, and great weather.

Could you come back and let me know if people get dressed up for dinner when they meet at the studio lounge. I've always sailed solo with traditional dining, and always dressed for dinner and formal night. For my solo cruise in October, I'm debating whether to bring a dressy dress for formal or not night, and just casual sundresses and capris for dinner the other nights.

Based on my experience on the Epic, solo lounge was pretty informal. Some people were ready for dinner. Sometimes if someone needed to shower, they would leave the lounge, shower and pop back in a few minutes later.

It was like the center piece of the day. It made any alone time during the day better because you new you would see friends at 5.

I have a flight credit from an unused Vegas trip last December that expires and instead of going to vegas I am considering- maybe doing the Epic 3 months after the Breakaway again

I have used them a few times. I have done one of their escorted singles cruises and also a few regular cruises with them. They were very good. The singles cruise was a lot of fun. The regular cruises they act as a normal online travel agent would. Calling to get in contact if you need something maybe a little difficult, but emailing got better response. YMMV

On the *** hosted cruises, are they truly for singles looking to meet or are there solo's too? What % of each?

Thanks in advance.

Hi jeansaussie1

On the hosted singles cruise that I went on (back in 2007) there were a few who IMO were looking to meet someone, but I think most were (myself included) were just out to have a good time and be with a group to not be totally alone. They had a yahoo group that worked much like the roll calls on here. There were group activities ( like Pictionary and battle of the sexes trivia, boat building)and cocktail parties (open bar for an hour or so at a time). Also dinner was in the MDR but you could move from table to table if you wanted. There was even a private shore excursion you could book ( we did whale watching in Cabo) Now they sometimes specify a particular age group ( ex 40+). They have quite a few repeaters so I think if everyone was pairing up that wouldn't happen so much.:D There was certainly no pressure to "make a love connection".

Hi Jen,

What I know about Breakaway is what most people know, I'm going on Breakaway because I leaves from NYC, NCL has free style dinning which I discovered last year on Norwegian Gem. I also like that the ship will be in the port of Bermuda 2 and half days.

Bermuda is beautiful I have been there before but never for an extended time and I look forward to exploring other parts of the Island.

I think you should go for it. I'm going solo because my friends canceled in June, but I was so looking forward to it that I'm taking the trip alone.

Happy cruising!!

Hi Margie and Jen- booked the 8/4 Breakaway a few moments ago- you won't be alone on this one!

Hi, glad to know someone else will be joining us. I will be in a studio cabin as well deck 11.

This will be my 5th cruise but my first solo. I've been to Bermuda before, this will be the longest time spent in port it will give me enough time to visit Hamilton and St. George.

Are you planning any excursions? I'm planning taking bus and ferry to get around. Horseshoe Bay is just a short bus ride away. Great beach.

Look forward is meeting all you fellow solo cruiser in the studio lounge, on the first day. I've read they meet around 5.

Hi Margie & Brian,

Since I'm so new to the cruise "world" I haven't planned anything. I've never been to Bermuda either but I do want to explore and find out what excursions are available. I need to book my cruise today and plan as it's only 11 or so days away! Spontaneity has it's drawbacks.

I'm looking at the studio deck 11 as well.

I will be cruise solo (first time solo but 5 cruises before) on NCL Breakaway but on a different date (9/22). Please share your experience and any tips for an enjoyable experience when you come back. Thank you.

Jen - Good luck with the booking! I was apprehensive at first but finally booked after a few days of (unnecessary) deliberation. No regrets now! And no refunds - haha.

Margie - Haven't book any excursions yet, but may do so before we sail. I'm thinking the $28 3 day transportation pass to do some exploring, with many beach stops for certain.

Thank you both for your advice. I'm all booked for the cruise departing August 4th - no regrets & I'm excited. Just need to book my flight to NYC and I'm all set!

I'm going to review the excursions & I think that like three-day transportation pass makes sense as I do want to see the island. I called the excursion people and they recommend booking before we get on the ship as to get what you want.

Let the count down begin so much to do!!
