Perry Grant - The Beat Goes On!

We have just returned from the Connie b2b2b in the Caribbean and absolutely hated the comedian on the first cruise - he 'used' the audience to try to be funny. However, our American friends really found him funny. So what suits one will not suit another. We did go and see him, if only the once out of six appearances.

Many here are knocking Perry, who I found to be very talented if I managed to get in to Michaels Club, when they haven't seen him. Many appear to be dancers who object to the room being used for one hour each evening for possibly a hundred guests or more. To be honest I have never seen anyone dancing at this early hour. I have no doubt there are some but there is always music somewhere. Celebrity know what they are doing and what will please the majority of their customers.

We are many with a variety of interests who must live together. We will never all like the same thing but that is life. Whether you like Perry or not he must be doing something right for the majority.

See you there on Transatlantic in April.

Still have my formica...might get sprayed again :) :p

Perry is definately not for everyone but he sure is for me. I haven't laughed that much in a long time' date=' or stayed up that late on a cruise. We were introduced to him last Feb on Connie and he saved the entertainment experience for me on the ship. Looking forward to it!! I knew he was concerned about the size of Michael's Club on Eclipse (being smaller than on Connie) so I guess that is why he is in a larger venue.

I would expect those who love to dance will have the opportunity.[/quote']

Perry is one of a kind & I am happy for that. I met Perry for the first time on this cruise (the l4 day southern caribbean Eclipse). This man is so very talented with an unsual sense of humor which draws people out. He is very engaging, talented, a fine piano player/singer/musician. He has an innate sense of timing with his jokes & comments. The audience was so entertained by him and all were laughing & singing along. Quite frankly, he made this the most memorable part of my cruise experience. I purchased his latest CD & now have him home to listen to. His keen sense of timing & use of appropriate props while engaging with individuals set him apart as the most memorable musician/entertainer who really knows the fine art of working a room. It is quite evident that he loves his profession & his patrons love him too. I am now a Perry fan who lookds forward to another voyage with him..Sailormateforyou (sally;)

Perry was one of the highlights of our Arctic Circle cruise two years ago; a great entertainer! I tried to persuade my DH to do a Baltic/ Russia cruise on Eclipse this summer, but he really wanted some guaranteed warm weather. We will miss Perry! Maybe next cruise I will just book Eclipse!

Looking forward to hearing/seeing Perry for the first time in May. I have to say last year the Baltic cruise we did rivalled temps anywhere in the med..it was amazing! Don't think there won't be sun in the baltics in the summer...there most certainly is!

I just came off a 2 wk Southern Caribbean Cruise on The Eclipse. I could not wait to hear Perry sing and watch his gala performance. Wow,this man is talented! His fans were there in abundance cheering him on; laughing and there was fun and much engagement on Perry's part. He certainly knows how to keep his audience coming back for me. I was him every nite for two weeks @ the late show & a couple of times for the early show. He made my cruise a wonderful memory. I even bought his CD & listen to his voice & it brings me back to those lat nite shows with Perry @ the keyboard, singing, engaing with the audience by using some of his most unusual props..The man is just wonderful and a defintite asset to Celebrity. I would cruise again on Celebrity if I was certain that he would be playing on the keys. He is wonderful for the age group that loves the old tunes...he brings back those happy memories. Celebrity, please keep Perry as he is an asset & is a wonderful performer for the 50+ age group. Ok everyone : POSITIONS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

Glad you enjoyed Perry and your cruise! We have enjoyed Perry on past cruises and actually sailed Eclipse before he got on Eclipse, but did enjoy Perry on the Constellation last year.

Just plan your next cruise for an itinerary of the Eclipse and also check to see if Perry is on holiday. Not sure exactly how you do this, but it is suggested on CC. :)

I've heard that Perry's has a contract with X till August. I hope Celebrity recongnize what a talent he is and what he brings to so many cruisers, like no other entertainer does.

We hope that X renew his contract, so we can do our future booking.

Sailing on Eclipse this Saturday - counting days................

Just back of Eclipse. The Sky Lounge was "hogged" by Perry and his acolytes to the detriment of everyone else. It seems like the 14 night cruises have a demographic profile which prefers this type of "entertainment". The sad thing is that by 1130pm they had all gone to bed and the rest of us were left wondering where the entertainment was. The Sky lounge hasthe only reasonable dance floor on the ship and was wasted on Perry and his following. Better that they did two shows (early and late) in Michaels than penalise the rest of us

Really disappointing to hear this. A group of us board the Eclipse on Saturday and were hoping the Sky Lounge would have bands there, at least a few nights, to dance and hang out in the evening :(

Perry played to a full Sky Lounge again last night. Tomorrow he will be in the theatre. All our tastes vary. I can't understand why some people have to make personal attacks just because you don't like a certain type of performance. When nearly 300 people show up and stay for the show, obviosuly he is connecting with interested fans.

300 people is less than 20% of the passenges

The thing is no S-class ship seems to utilize the dance floor in the Sky Lounge. Someone in Miami has determined that the bands will play in the Grand foyer and on the pool deck outside. Celebrity has absolutely no interest in providing a good dance band in the Sky Lounge.

It is sad that so many people feel they have to attack Perry or his fans about the lack of dancing opportunities. If Perry was not scheduled up there, no one would be up there!

It is a real shame that the S-class ships don't have a Rendezvous lounge dance floor area, and that Michael's Club is too small and oddly arranged. No proper dance floor anywhere on the ship. That's not Perry Grant's fault. He plays where he is scheduled. Dance bands play in the Atrium, where they are scheduled, and that's not their fault, either. The M-class ships are more suited to ballroom dancers, and more suited to a Piano Bar, but now that Connie is doing the short hauls, and Eclipse is doing the 2 week cruises, Perry Grant fans follow where he plays. If Connie gets the two-week cruises in the future, most of us would be happy to go back to that ship, and back to Michael's Club.

Just an observation from my Eclipse cruise: the area in the Atrium used for dancing to the music from an excellent group--Fully Functioning--always seemed to me to have plenty of room for those who wanted to dance with plenty of room along the sides for those of us who enjoyed getting caught up in the spirit/music. My suggestion would be to provide for even more seating for those of us who don't/can't dance on the deck where the dance floor is. (Maybe in the area between the elevator banks, aft of the band?)

Would 300 use the dance floor? There is obviously a demand for this type of entertainment. I have been to shows in the theatre with comedians I have not enjoyed but don't wish to prevent shows going on just because I don't like it. When the comedian did a repeat show I just went to another area on the ship - dancing actually:rolleyes:

I beg to differ: I was on the Solstice last year and the sky lounge was a very lively place every night until at least midnight. I am not attacking anyone but as mentioned 300 people is only a small percentage of passengers.

You are correct; about 10-15 percent.

We first saw Perry on the Connie Transatlantic last april and delighted that he will be on our Eclipse Transatlantic this year.

Since the venue on the Eclipse is larger, hopefully it will accommodate all who want to see him, last year, there was a large overspill outside who could not get in.

I, too, was just off the Eclipse and I beg to differ some of you. Many nights we were with Perry's group in the Sky Lounge until midnight.(Don't know how many were at the first show) And from my observations, there are probably more Perry followers than folks who wanted to dance as I have seen very few dancers on the dance floor on the Eclipse and other ships as well. I also would venture to say that there are a lot more Perry fans than dancers. I'm hearing that Eclipse was a boring ship as far as entertainment goes until the arrival of Perry and I'm sure that Celebrity is aware of the revenue he brings to them. I think everyone should stop bashing Perry. He is where Celebrity put him and we, his fans, hope he stays.

Why couldn't Perry entertain until 11:30 and then bring a dance band or the DJ up there after that?

We are just off the Solstice and often there would be some kind of event ( the Newlywed/NotSoNewlywed game comes to mind ) and afterwards either the dance band or the Dj played "until late". (I've already commented elsewhere that the DJ played music you could actually dance to - NOT Techno)

While we were on Eclipse in Jan and Feb., Perry's schedule was very irregular. On some days (going by memory which is no longer the greatest) he was only scheduled until 8 pm, on several days he did not perform at all.

I believe the not/newly wed show was held up there but the scheduling for any dance floor, including Quasar was very poor for anyone who enjoys dancing to various styles. We actually enjoyed the DJ when he was scheduled in Quasar.

There is also a very deliberate agenda by Celebrity to discourage activities in various venues so that passengers are forced to visit the shops and casino as the only "entertainment" available. It would be very interesting to see a post by anyone who has schedules for the Sky lounge on any S-class ship including Eclipse pre-Perry and what is scheduled in the Sky Lounge when Perry does not perform.

We were on Eclipse past November ( Perry was not on board yet) and Sky lounge was empty almost every night, for exception of few theme parties during the cruise. So, don't blame Perry for attracting so many passengers.

Until Celebrity will provide something better than current entertainment choices, Perry remains the best Celebrity has.

If we lucky, maybe Infinity will be doing 14 days Caribbean in 2015??

As previously written, I attended Perry's shows @ evening while on my l4 day Eclipse cruise. I would like to point out that as a "single", I too miss a dance venue...and herein lies my suggestion. The Qsar lounge is ALWAYS empty..I can see that as an appropriate dance area if X changes the decor, does whatever with the DJ and have contemporay dancing there. This is my 2nd cruise (first on Equinox) & on both cruises, the Qusar "disco" lounge was empty. Let's face it, X does not cater to the younger or single groups, so why not make this a place for couples to dance instead of or in addtion to the foyer? It makes no sense to criticize Perry because he is in the Sky Lounge just because you don't prefer his type of entertainment. He must be doing something right as many seniors are thumping their feet, singing along & clapping, smiling, etc to his tunes. Get a grip!!!!!! Sailormateforyou:)

For those who want more space to dance, I believe this is an issue that needs to be taken up with Celebrity.

As some one has mentioned, he plays where he is told to play. He doesn't organize where dancing should be or not be.
