Formal night on the Fantasy

Can anyone tell me if formal night is mostly dress casual? We don't want to bring dresses and suits...but rather slacks and nice tops. I know Carnival is more casual than some other ships we have been on, but haven't been in years. Would love to know...20% formal/60%dress casual/20% too casual??

Perhaps half the people will dress formally. Those teens with prom dresses worn once...they will bring them all. As long as you aren't wearing shorts and tshirts into the MDR you will be fine. EM

Let me put it this way...our last Carnival cruise was last month. Hardly any suits and ties....I did not see one gown....mostly cocktail dresses.

There was actually a family of 8 dressed like the Honey Boo Boo family and they had NO problem getting in.

Carnival has changed drastically....they do not call it Formal night anymore...It is now Elegant night....:eek:

More and more it seems suits and ties are less and less. Heck, a lot of us men don't even wear a suit to church anymore.

The minimum requirement for CE night on Carnival is dress shirt & slacks for guys.

When we go to CE night I wear black pants and a 'fancy' top. DH wears Dockers and a Guyabera or subtle Hawaiian shirt. He's on the lower end of the dress scale but acceptable.

FWIW the dress code is only (might be) enforced in the dining rooms. Many pax on the ship will change after dinner. Last cruise on the Inspiration we didn't go to CE night in the MDR and stayed in jeans the whole night.

We were on the Fantasy 10 times last year but only once so far this year. (Its a 4 1/2 hour drive to her for us!) There are VERY few tuxes and some suits but most people just wear what they wear regular nights. My husband -who has worn his tux- sometimes just wears dockers and a polo shirt. But ladies are dressed up more. There are lots of photographers taking family pictures when people are dressed up. On the 5 day cruises there is only one 'cruise elegant' night which is what they call it now. That is the 2nd night.

This is the night Captain LaFarina, the cruise director and the officers stand outside the Cat's lounge to meet passengers and bring your camera for a picture with the captain. This is from about 5-6 then 7-8. But not all are there on time so go at 5:30 or 6:30.This is on the Prominade deck past the casino and casino bar (21 Centurty bar).
