Onboard Visas for Viet Nam and Cambodia?

Must we be signed on for a HAL ship-sponsored shore excursion to buy visas onboard for Viet Nam and Cambodia? May we buy the visas onboard if we are signed on for an independent tour with a licensed local travel guide? What is the official word for Viet Nam and Cambodia in particular, please?

If HAL is getting these visas they will be for everyone on board and charged to your shipboard account.

Recently there was a thread about this on another forum. This link will take you there for the full discussion. In a nutshell however, word from HAL was that they wouldn't know until 2 months out if they would be allowed to have the visas issued onboard.

Is there anyone here on this board who has cruised with HAL to Vietnam or Cambodia who can answer the above visa question?

After our first SE Asia cruise, we decided to get our own visa's here in Melbourne and were much cheaper than on board.

Always ask the consulate if you can use a transit visa as with Indonesia as these allow for 1 day visits (ship port day) and are cheaper as you would normally be paying for a 7 day visa and would not use this time.

In China where the ship travels to several ports, you would need a multiple entry visa.
