To all you casino veterans out there, this one may seem a little silly. I usually play the penny slots and have marginal winnings (and marginal fun) or the machine takes my money before i even know what happened (then this is no fun).

I would like to try some roulette on this cruise and just have the following questions:

1- Is this a social game? I know in craps usually people are rooting for each other, does roulette provide the same social atmosphere?

2- I'm not a huge gambler, so can I have fun for an hour or so with $100? (I'll be on the Getaway so maybe they have a $5 table?)

3- Are the dealers accommodating to new players?

Any other general tips would be appreciated, thanks as always in advance, i always get great info here.

Roulette odds aren't that great. I've heard in Atlantic City even bets (like red or black) that lose on green (0 or 00) will get you half your bet back. Under those rules, it's a fun way to kill time, but otherwise, no.

The odds are much better in craps. Just bet $10 on the pass line and root for the shooter. Don't get sucked into the other bets. They're not as good. You don't even need to roll the dice if you're intimidated. Just pass it to someone else.

Don't play blackjack unless you know the basic strategy. Some people get annoyed if you make a bad move that effects the outcome of the table, but those people need to get a life. You could just as easily make a wrong move that works to the table's benefit. BTW, hitting a soft 18 against a dealer showing 10 is the right thing to do.

I generally find all the games on a cruise ship pretty friendly and you can have a great time for $100 on any of them. With roulette however your money may go quicker if none of your numbers come in, which doesn't actually take that long. With blackjack odds are if you bet say $5 a hand you'll have quite a long time of playing.

I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever you choose and the dealers are generally fairly friendly :)

I would definitely go with 3 card poker, it's very easy to learn, and what you do does not affect others. I play A LOT, and will only play blackjack when it's just me and the dealer. I've seen too many obnoxious people at the blackjack table, and it's no place for a beginner. 3 card everyone is happy when someone wins, and it is usually a very social game.

I love Roulette and have spent many hours playing with just $100. Make sure you find a table where the minimum is $5 which means you can play 5 numbers at $1 each. I always ALWAYS play zero and double zero if I see it hasn't come up in awhile. Review the odds and have fun. Just choose a few numbers you want to play, be consistent and enjoy what may end up as beginner's luck for you.

Is the game pretty easy to pick up on craps? I'm likely to do the free gaming lessons on the first sea day.

Do the gaming lessons if you can it is fun the casino is closed you play with fake money and the explain basic strategy of all or some games depending on what the group wants to learn.

I love Roulette too. It is the only casino game I play. I find others at the table are very social. For $100 I often get several hours of play and walk away with my money a lot of the time (I do lose some times and win some as well). Give it a try and see how you do. The one thing I will tell you is that if you do play, never touch any chips (put down or move on table) while the plastic thing is on the table (the spinner puts it on when determining who won and how much to pay).

Roulette is very easy and fun if you have the right group at the table. Do a google search on the rules and how to place different bets. There is more bets than odd/even and Red/Black.

Just go up to any dealer who doesn't look busy and ask how to play the game, they are really great and willing to help.....I really didn't know much about craps and one of the dealers that I knew from previous cruises taught me alot...On the first nite playing craps, I played for 4 hours straight and won $250.00 just by playing the pass line and the 6 & 8

I love roulette! When I turned 21, I made the obligatory trek to Las Vegas. As one of my very first casino experiences, I walked up to a busy roulette table and slapped a hundred dollar bill on RED. The dealer looked to someone official nearby, getting a slight nod before accepting my bet and allowed my hundred dollar bill to lay there as he spun the wheel. I WON, effectively doubling my money! Forever after, roulette has had a special place in my heart :P

Listen I went to Vegas with 4 friends who had never played BJ, they all failed to follow any basic strategy whatsoever, and they all won while I lost each hand. It is what it is. I had a very upset person not like what I did once with a hit and I didn't hesitate to let him know I am doing what I want with my cards and my money.

Roulette is usually the only game i play. Last year on the Gem i won about $900, and my dad has won $700 and $1000 on our last two cruises playing roulette. IDK, i guess it's just our game lol. I think the odds are pretty good at 35/1 on every number, you play a few numbers each time and you have a pretty good chance of hitting. I usually sit down with $100, and pocket any big chips while I play until i run out of the $1 chips. I also throw the dealer like 2 chips when I hit. Another tip i would give is to not play with a dealer who is constantly rushing to spin the wheel and doesn't give you enough time to get all your chips down, it can be very frustrating.

the last cruise I did on the carnival breeze I gave myself $10 a day and the first day I accidentally hit max bet on a slot and won $600 so I just decided to use that the rest of the trip to gamble with. I then hit a few hundred more on maybe $10 more. I finally came down hard to where I only had $60 left and cashed out and went to Roulette. I kept betting $5 or $10 on red until I was down to $10 and that was about 45 mins later. with that last $10 I bet on 3 first time I had ever bet on a number and 3 hit giving me $360. I then was about to walk away when a woman told me you always bet the same number twice it hits back to back a lot so I left $50 on 3 still leaving me with winnings and 3 hit again giving me $1800. Luckily it was about 2 am and the last night of the cruise so I didnt risk losing that money any more. I tossed $50 to the dealer $50 to the woman who said bet again its good luck, and was so happy that Carnival paid for my cruise. Having said that I was extremely lucky and most people dont have that kind of success but if you have a few numbers you like and/or a group of numbers you like then you can play for a while just betting $5 to $10 every spin.

Sorry for such a long post I was just so happy when I got off the boat, especially since the last day on the boat was my birthday.

What has or has not 'come up in a while' is 100% irrelevant to what may or may not come out on the next spin. Every spin is an independent trial. The odds are always 1/38 (standard US wheel) of any number coming out on any given spin of the wheel. Any previous spin results are 100% irrelevant.

Also for the OP and the other newbies who asked questions in and around this long discourse about bad blackjack players: there is another forum here, down the page under "Cruise Conversations" called "Cruise Casinos." The people who follow that forum are more than happy to answer questions about gambling in general, and gambling on cruise ships.
