Norwegian Dream

DW & I enjoyed a wonderful cruise aboard the Norwegian Dream in 2005, when she was sailing out of NOLA. Although the Dream was an older, smaller ship, my wife and I considered that cruise memorable because of a wonderful, caring crew, and a well maintained, clean vessel.

I know that the Dream was sold out of NCL to another line belonging to the parent company to sail elsewhere. I also believe that for some reason that deal fell through, and the Norwegian Dream is now "laid up" somewhere, awaiting, well, whatever.

Does anyone have info as to where the Dream is, and what her future is? I truly hope that more cruising is in this wonderful ship's future.

We too thought the NCL Dream was an awesome ship, we also took it out of New Orleans on a western itinerary. The ship, crew and guests helped make it one of our favorite cruises, and probably the lone reason we have sailed NCL since. Would love to see her return and would sail her again.

She is now laid up(anchord) right out side of Freeport,Bahamas.

We too loved the Dream. It was the ship that we were on for our honeymoon and then again for our first anniversary.

What happened in the previous pic? I sure hope that it is some photoshop and not really a genuine picture.

Thats not true. She was repaired and put back into service. And later laied up.

Do not fear! This picture is way old......from many years ago.

The Dream collided with a cargo ship in the English Channel in August of 1999. She was taken out of service for some time while a new bow section was manufactured and installed.

We were on the Dream when she collided with a cargo ship in the English Channel in 1999. It was quite the experience. She was laid up in Bremerhaven for about 8 weeks -- suffered ~$65 million damage. No starboard bridge wing, two life boats destroyed, no bow (as you can see from the pictures).

We were approaching Dover, the final port of our Scandinavian capitals cruise. We hit a 60K ton cargo container broadsides around 1:30 a.m. Given the rules of the road in the English Channel, the Dream was most likely at fault. It felt as if we were running aground. We had to get up on deck, they took muster, and they lowered the lifeboats. However, we were not taking on a significant amount of water or listing. Thus, they decided that the ship could make it to Dover under its own power, at low speed (8 kts) and with several tugs accompanying us.

Luckily, there were no serious injuries. The cargo ship, which was carrying tires, was afire for 7 days. There was a mile exclusion zone around that ship. As noted, the Dream didn't sail for awhile.

For our troubles, we got a $100 credit for a future NCL cruise taken within 12 months. We've never cruised NCL since -- and never will. We have cruised again -- and enjoyed it.

Never been on the Dream but did see her at anchor outside Freeport. I have a photo of her on our recent trip on the Sky.

Sailed her prior to being stretched, when she was NCL's Dreamward. Thought she ws the perfect size ship then. :)

Although I'm the OP, a new thought just popped into my mind about the Norwegian Dream, or any other "laid up" ship. What, if any, maintenance is preformed on the vessel so that it doesn't deteriorate during it's idleness?

Because it's expensive to maintain a ship in service, and right now cruise lines are scrambling to fill the ships they have.

The "Dream" left Freeport at 17th April.. on 26 April she reached Gibraltar. One day later she left Gibraltar into Mediterranean Sea. At the moment she is about 35°N - 22°E next to Greece and Cyprus. It looks like she is going to Piraeus.

Do you know why she is going to Greece?

Like the Majesty, Dream was 'sold' to Louis Cruise Lines and leased back to NCL to finish upher scheduled cruises. Star seems not to have wanted her, and she was not suitable to be renovated for Freestyle2, or whatever. However, when it came time for delivery, Louis reneged on the deal, so she was sitting idle at Freeport (presumably with a big FOR SALE sign...). Perhaps Louis, or someone, have changed their minds...EM

My first cruise was on NCL's Dream and what a great cruise it was. It remains my favorite/best cruise. Unfortunately, the Dream did have an accident in December 07. Here is a link to the CC thread.

We were on the Majesty, Dream's sister ship in Jan to the Bahamas. The Dream is anchored outside Freeport. The sale fell through and is awaiting another buyer. We were told by the CD that she would not enter back into the fleet. The Majesty is leaving the fleet towards the end of the year.

We sailed the the Majesty from Boston to Bermuda when it was the Royal Majesty..incredible staff by Apollo.. Then the same week NCL bought the ship and there was a riot by the crew we were on it..lol. Engineers were on it from NCL planning....I believe 260 additional cabins were inserted..lol.. Love that ship..but people want bigger and better..will be sad to see it go.. We were always on the 6th deck not far from the Casino.lol which was a great location. Oh yes.. we were on that ship at least one dozen times..to Bermuda

I always felt the same way about NCL Seaward and RCCL Empress of the Seas...the right size ships for cruising to Bermuda and allowed to dock in Hamilton and St George...not that God forsaken Dockyard with a view of the Royal Bermuda PRISON!!!

Well we know where NCL Dreamward is right now...where is the Windward?

When we first went to Bermuda on the ROYAL MAJESTY.. the Dockyard was a mess..now that has to be at least 15 years ago..there were some stores, etc. When we last went back it was well on it's way to becoming a major tourist area five years ago with the glass factory, the Arts and Crafts building ad little pubs. NCL has been donating $$$ to improve the area and the entertainment, etc. etc. Just a few weeks ago I read something new and exciting is happening at the Dockyard as of mid-May.. BUT I will miss going through the "cut", wandering the side streets of St. George and peeking into the gardens, finding the Princess Margaret garden for a few moments to sit..popping into Sinclairs. Most of our favorite shops closed along time ago..There was one funky gift shop on the waterside where I bought... a fabulous and striking parrot necklace (wonder why)..lol.. it's gone.. The powers that be did not want the "cut" sliced again.. I personally talked to one of those "powers" the owner/manager of a famous china/antique shop in Hamilton. He is against the cruise ships coming into Bermuda because in his words.. they don't spend the $$ that tourists at the hotels do.. Well, Mr. "D" what did he think I was doing in his shop...sightseeing..lol Somehow I wil find my way back to the original Swizzle Inn and sit on the patio and listen to the "Bermuda Symphony) and have my pitcher of rum punch, fish sandwich or maybe the chicken wings.. and top off my visit to the gift shop. Oh Yes. the Majesty was sold to NCL because the Greek owner had so many problems.. like hitting a whale, etc. etc.but boy was that ship run like a strict navy.. and the food. oh my.. the food was to die for as was the service...
