What's at the port?

This will be our first time in Tortola. We are there from 7 am to 3:30pm. I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to make our way to a beach or if we should just stay at the port area and walk around. So what is right there?

Is there any beach close to the port? I mean less than a 15 minute taxi ride.

Thanks

Right around the port, you will be at Road Town. There is shopping, restaurants, and the marina. You will have to get a taxi or excursion to go to the beaches. I would go for Cane Garden Bay if you want lots of action or Smuggler's Cove if you want more of a secluded beach. I would say the drive to Smuggler's is around 25 minutes or so from Road Town. It is picture perfect. It is well worth it! Just depends on what you are wanting. Cane Garden Bay is beautiful with lots of people and restaurants if that is more of your style. Depending on how long your stay is, you could opt for a visit to JVD. Soggy Dollar, Ivan's, and Foxy's can't be beat!
