Hi All,

My wife and I booked this morning on the Oct. 10th, 2008 transatlantic. My TA was on hold for 1 hour before getting an agent. Cunard must be going crazy today.

Did anyone else book this crossing or get through to Cunard?

We're on, too. Looking forward to another transatlantic. Don't know how long my travel agent was on the phone. I do know I was her second client to tell her to make a booking, and I called her last Wed. Don't know how long her list was by this AM.

See you there!

Kathy

Hi James and Kathy. Glad to see you got through to Cunard.

James - I envy you going on the back to back transatlantic. I hope you enjoy every minute (which I'm sure you will).

I can't wait to see the reception we get in NY!

We are on this final westbound. Would like to do the B2B but can't commit to two weeks at this point. If space should happen to become available in 2008 we might consider it. Be nice to inaugurate and close out a fall crossing I am sure there will be a lot of reminescing on the ship throughout and many episodes of spontaneous crying and 'moments' when a memory hit you at an opportune time. :)

You are going to be able to tell the end is near people will be wandering sometimes aimlessly lost in thoughts.

I managed to book through Cunard both the west bound QE2 (10-10-08) crossing and her east-bound (10-16-08) return to Southampton. It will be the first time I have been able to do back-to-back crossings, and I plan to savor every last moment on this, the last great transatlantic express liner.

Hi,

I am just registered, so first of all, a warm "hi" to everybody here.

It was a big dream for years: Crossing the atlantic from southampton to NYC with the QE2. It has to be THIS ship. We even don't want to sail with the QM2, because she is not as famous as the QE2 and she is to big, to modern, to much party...we want it the old fashioned way ;-).

So on last thursday (June, 28th) I have been reading a newsletter from a german online travel agency, specialised in Cruises. I couldn't believe it...

So the newsletter came out on june 24th and I thought I had no chance to catch a booking...but I tried on friday morning 29th. I just called the german travel agency and 30 minutes later I received the fax confirmation for me and my wife for a M1 for the 2008-10-10 westbound transatlantic!!!

I couldn't believe it. We will be on the QE2 and we will sail the old "classical" route - and it's her final voyage (TA westbound).

After this I noticed that it will be a tandem together with the QM2 - great!

Today we have left 465 days before we will board in Southampton - a lot of time to dream about it.

When I read all the postings I am very surprised that I even made it to the booking from germany on friday. I called the Agency today to ask for an upgrade to a C1 or something like that. But now it seems to be sold out.

Many greetings,

Christian

Hi Christian - I'm pleased you managed to get a cabin. It might be worth trying for again an upgrade on the 5th July - that's the date that deposits are due, I'm sure that some people won't pay, you might find that there are some cabins available then. (I'm only saying might - I suspect they could have sold the cabins 2 or 3 times over).

Join the roll Call for the Crossing (in the Roll Calls - Cunard forum). We'd love to see you there.:)

Euwww, don't like the sound of this. You said they COULD HAVE over sold. But does anyone think they might actually have overbooked, figuring some people would drop cabins that were "on hold" when the money has to be paid? I know, that's what waitlists are for. But given the chaos of last week...

This has been preying on my mind, because I've got a guarantee, not a cabin number. I don't usually do guarantees, but that's what my agent was able to get. This isn't like flying where overbooking bumps you to another flight. (And don't even mention being bumped to the other ship on that route)

I would think that it's highly likely they have overbooked. The guarantee cabin does get around the idea of them having to give you a definite cabin number. That doesn't explain why some cabin types do keep showing up as available though. I suspect that what they've done is to overbook on the lower grades of cabin with the intention of upgrading if necessary. I can only think of one occasion in the past 18 months when Cunard did overbook the QM2 - they were offering very hansom compensation if you changed to another cruise. If you said no then they went on to try someone else.

I think that you don't need to be too bothered that you might be offloaded at the last minute. Just make sure that deposits, balances, etc are all paid before they're due - don't give Cunard the chance of cancelling your trip. (Don't take your travel agent's word about payment - check for yourself):)

Strangely enough, I have an assigned cabin number for this crossing (with an upgrade approval, of course). I normally book GTYs, but my TA was given a particular cabin this time. Conversely, I have a GTY for the October 4 NYC-SOU TA on the QM2. Yes, gasp! I really am going on the QM2 for the first time. It was either that or pay one way international air and worry about missing the plane or the luggage getting lost somewhere along the way. Perhaps they'll see fit to give me a lovely upgrade on the QM2 to convince me to sail on her again;)

Oh Julia! Don't be ridiculous. they'd NEVER lose your luggage! that's just an old wive's tale!

You know, "I heard about someone on the TA Winter crossing..."

Couldn't happen!

Karie,

who thinks Julia does better without luggage than I manage to do with three suitcases!

We had the same occur. Most likely due to the circumstances being final and the demand they just started slotting people. I assume cancellations will be extremely low compared to a typical voyage. So I wouldn't expect much moving around or upgrades.

Hope someone can put my mind at ease here. My TA just called me today with my cabin selection (2022, not too thrilled) but at least I am booked. I've been out of town since 6/28 thru this week, and had almost forgotten about my booking request. She needed my credit card for the deposit which I quickly provided. But now late at night, I'm just wondering.....Is there any chance that the terms are different for these final cruises and the deposit is not refundable should I cancel 70 or 90 days out, whatever the current brochure says.

I suppose it's possible that they would put different conditions on such special sailings. But, considering the waiting lists, I think they will allow cancellations on the normal schedule. You should check with Cunard to make sure. And get travel insurance if you're worried you might need to cancel for a health or family health reason.

No, the terms on the invoices are the same. Better not cancel 70 days out though... finals are due 90 days prior. It'll be July 08 for finals.

This is why American travel agents actually give service.

Jon - you can't mean that those lovely girls with squeaky voices (and squeaky boys as well) that you get on the British High Street don't give service:eek:
