Anyone have any recommendations for a shore tour in Nassau? What was your favorite??? What didnt you like? Oh, and I should say we've already been to Atlantis on a different cruise and dont care to go back. Thanks!

I was in Nassau in September. I took a bus for $1 to the Wyndham resort. A huge hotel with a casino, you pay $15 and get to use all their facilities for the day. They have a pool, outdoor hot tub, water sports, as well as an indoor workout facility. It has its own whirlpool with a sauna, steam room, etc. The beach was beautiful, and also they have an outdoor restaurant/bar area. I had a great time!:)

Would you recommend Atlantis for someone who's never been there? Is it a one-time thing or did you just not enjoy it?

Am curious if anyone has done this. Looks like it could be a lot of fun. I know people who have done tours similar to this in DC and have had a blast. Also, does anyone know of a way to book this directly. There are four of us, and the savings can sometimes be significant.

Thanks!

Atlantis is very big and impressive. When we were there we booked a room through the Comfort Suites next door and got a pretty good rate (which, of course I cant remember) but we felt it was worth it. I did look into it for our next cruise, but the Comfort suite rate is almost $400 and to purchase the AquaAdventure pass directly thru Atlantis would be $300...both prices are just too high for us to justify. If the price was lower we probably would go back and spend the day. I think its worth spending a day there if you've never been!

Thanks, I would like to see it, I think that's that we'll do. I read something (here I think?) that sometimes you can buy day passes for $25 per person when you arrive at port, that obviously doesn't include the AquaAdventure pass - but I wonder what it does include.

I just noticed you are from the Twin Cities. We live in Woodbury! Small world! Anyway, not sure what the $25 pass would include either?? Hopefully someone will!

I am in Woodbury too! In the neighborhood along-side Woodbury Elementary/Woodbury Jr. High. Very small world!

I was reading more last night and saw that the $25 day passes are just for The Dig, and only a limited number are available, so it depends on how many ships are in port and how quickly people get them. I also read that it's free after 5 pm.

This will be my first cruise and it was a last minute whim as we had a flight to Miami scheduled, and a 3-day Bahama fit into our schedule perfectly (and ironically was cheaper than the hotel for 3 nights). My husband sailed out of Puerto Rico in a former life on some obscure tiny ship, which he says he's too embarrassed to talk about lol, so he's somewhat counting this as his first cruise too. He said the locals in PR laughed when they got on the ship because they couldn't believe it was still afloat.

I'm usually not a planner, but I planned every second on a WDW trip in late August for our family (thanks to another board) and it went so smoothly that I thought I should try to get a plan together for our day in Nassau.

Wow, it is a small world!! We are in the neighborhood across from Red Rock Elementary! And, we also went to WDW in August as well (19-26th). Now if we were there at the same time that would be too wierd! We stayed at the Poly...how about you? What ship are you sailing on to the Bahamas and when? We are going on the Fascination at the end of April...oh, and it doesnt surprise me that the 3 nights on the ship are cheaper than a hotel...thats why we love cruising, you get so much more for less money!!!

We arrived on Aug. 27 and stayed at Saratoga Springs (not DVC members though), so we were pretty close there too! This is pretty funny.

We'll be on Fascination too, so will be able to give you a full report as soon as we get home, we're going soon - Feb. 1.

For Father's Day we did this promotion through JC Penney where you got a free flight for purchasing $100 of Docker's men's clothing, both my husband and I did it, so that's how we're flying to Miami. Then Kohl's had a similar deal at the same time for 2 hotel nights and a meal at the hotel. That part of the promo fell through - first they lost our voucher, then they marked it as booked when it wasn't. This has been going on since September and they still aren't any closer to straightening it out, even though they're promising that it might work out in time. I knew I would have to book 2 additional days somewhere, but had been holding off hoping for a miracle and on Saturday I started looking for rooms and came up with this idea. We still need a room January 31 and transportation to the hotel from MIA and then to the pier. I'm giving the Docker's deal one more week to pan out (even though I'll forfeit the second night).

I'm thinking next week I'll be posting in Florida Departures looking for a hotel :p - I've been trying to sort through the threads and everyone posts the same thing and no one responds. You'd think when you see "Need Miami hotel with transportation" 30 times in a row with 0 replies, it's a clue not to post the same question.

I sure like Cruise Critic - I got a response here (thanks!) and I found out that I can bring some Mountain Dew on the ship and can also buy an unlimited soda card, and then I learned about this amazing stuff from Walmart called Ozium that removes odors from everything lol I post frequently at a Disney board and a friend there recommended this site.

I remember seeing that JC Penny promo and mentioned it to my husband too, but we didnt do it, although I wish we had! If you do need to find a hotel in Miami, be careful!!! A lot of the reasonable priced hotels are not in a good area (if you are trying to find one close to the pier). We stayed at the Intercontinental close to the pier and it was awesome...nice hotel, close to the pier and we could walk to Bayside Marketplace, which is a shopping/nightlife complex. We had dinner there and a few drinks and just enjoyed the Miami warmth! Lord knows we need some warmth right now!! Also, although I havent checked the price of the Intercontinental since we went, it was kinda pricey (around $300 for 1 night). However, I learned on this site about lastminutetravel.com where you can find hotels for a cheaper price. The catch is you dont know which hotel you are getting...they have these "off the record" hotels where you read the description, and can narrow it down by #of stars and location. Someone else took a risk and booked it and got the Intercontinental and posted directly from lastminutetravel the description of that hotel so we did the same and booked that same "off the record" hotel and got the Intercontinental for $150!!! I know I am getting wordy trying to describe this, so let me know if you have any questions regarding this. Also, we have always found just taking taxis works best. Taxi to hotel from airport, taxi to pier from hotel, and then taxi to airport from pier! Hope that helps a bit with the hotel and transportation! PS I love the disboards too!

Thanks, have added both the hotel name and the last minute site to my panic list. The hotel for the Docker's thing would be either: South Beach Marriott, JW Marriott or possibly Courtyard Marriott on South Beach. I'm just assuming they'd be safe - if you've heard otherwise, please let me know.

Sounds like the taxi situation is good in Miami so that's a relief. I think I'd rather walk 5 miles than take a taxi around here!

P.S. Didn't know if I was allowed to say disboards here :)

im looking for an answer to this too

Wyndham Resort on Cable Beach

Day passes are $15 per person, and give access to chairs, umbrellas, floats, towels and three pools; and access to the sister hotel, Nassau Beach Hotel. Purchase day passes at the hotel.

  • walk through the marketplace
  • take a right and walk along the waterfront
  • take a left at Straw Market and walk up to McDonalds
  • the downtown bus area is on Bay and Frederick St. behind the straw market
  • take the #10 jitney and tell the driver know you are going to the Wyndham Resort, fare is $1 per person

The last return bus is at 6 pm, buses run every 30 minutes.

Cab fare sounds like it'd be about $18. It's 5-7 miles from the dock, or about 20 minutes by jitney.

The British Colonial Hilton

Day passes are $15 per person. The beach is not as nice as Cable Beach.

-a short walk from the cruise port-

Atlantis

Day pass are $29 adult/$21 ages 4-12 for the aquarium and The Dig. Purchase the pass in the Atlantis casino at the Temple of the Moon.

Day passes for access to the pools, slides and beach are occasionally offered at the casino kiosk for $108 per adult/$75 per child.

Take a taxi to and from Atlantis.

Breezes

Adults only all-inclusive resort. Day passes are $65 at Breezes or $78 from most ships, they include food and beverage (alcohol included). $5 coupons often available at the marketplace near the dock. Day passes are not available when the hotel is full.

I think this is part of why they aren't returning my calls to get the hotel booked. The people I know from the other board who selected Orlando hotels received call-backs and bookings immediately because the cost there was about 1/4 for the same type hotel on the list.

I put the above information together from verifying the prices/locations from about 5 sources online for each hotel. Of course I have know way of knowing whether this is all accurate as I've never been there :p

I'm thinking that Saturdays (the day we will be there) will be much busier. I can't find information on if they limit the number of day passes at the Wyndham Resort.

I appreciate the effort it took to put it together and have printed it out to give to my group heading down there Feb 1.

Thanks Again....

Glad someone else could use it!

I looked up some more info. on Breezes and even though it says adults-only, they allow ages 14+.

It's also on Cable Beach.

They have an internet cafe: 15 minutes USD$7.50; 30 minutes USD$12.00; 1 hour USD$18.00; 2 hours USD$36.00

All drinks, from soft drinks to top-shelf premium brands are included. This might be an excellent value for $65 per person for the day. All tips are included.

It appears to have availability (as of 1-19-08) for all dates except the end of March.

I see where you where in U66 on the Fascination. We will have the same cabin in February, what did you think of the cabin and the ship. Do you have any pictures.
