onboard account

my wife and myself are soon to sail our first cruise and we are wondering will $2000-$2500 be enough for our onboard account.

we are on a 9 night med cruise.

i will also have $500 cash for excursions tips etc

NCL charges a $12 per person per day service charge in case you did not know that. As Paul said it really depends on your spending and what you want to do. If you are going to put cash down on your account rather than a credit card the amount is more than sufficient (personally I would only put $500 on the account to start because you can't get it back until the cruise is over, at least not easily and add more as I went along) and NCL will notify you if more cash is required.

You probably won't NEED that much on your onboard account....with cash accounts, you can put down a much smaller amount...they will let you know if and when they need more.

I always bring more than I think I'll need...my bank is happy to redeposit any funds I bring home!

The cost drivers are, alcohol, excursions and casino. So how much cash you need on your account depends on how much drinking and gambling you plan on doing and how many others you will have tied to your on board account (wife, kids etc). If you and the wife spend $100 each night in the casino you need $1,800 just for that cost.

Depends on you.
