I've noticed this on almost all the ship's I've sailed on. I always throw away in the bathroom. Its something I always think about on board but forget when I get home. I'm happy I'm not the only one who's noticed this.

There are several metal refuse containers that have labels for paper, plastic, etc all over the ship on the open decks. Or you can find refuse containers inside the buffet area.

There are no trash cans in cabin hallways.

Ask the crew for help in locating them.

That doesn't help in the atrium and inside areas where trivia and other activities are. It'd be helpful for people who have bottles of water or beer cans to have containers inside the ship also

We are currently sailing in the Paradise. I love it, but WHY are there virtually NO trash cans on this ship? Are all ships this way??

Somebody asked this question during a Shiplife Q&A that I was at one time.

The CD said they don't use trash cans because the employees sort through everything to make sure all recyclables are together, leftover food is put in the right place, and true trash is separate. They then can recycle the bottles/cans/etc, churn the food and dispose of it into the ocean when they're far enough at sea, and then compact the true trash. (One time they mentioned incinerate, but another time said they compact it.)

Exactly! There are zero garbage cans in the atrium or any atrium decks... Or the lounges, or the promenade, or the casino. It's driving me nuts, lol.. I shouldnt have to ask for help locating a trash can. It seems like it would mean less work for the crew, as people seem to just sit their bottles, cups, napkins, etc all over. It goes against my nature to just leave my garbage for others to pick up of the ground

What would you be throwing anything on the ground?

As a previous poster stated, it's actually better if the crew collects the trash so it can be properly sorted for recycling, etc. Even the trash bins in your room are sorted through by the stewards. We usually just try to leave ours at a bar as we are passing or with another group of dirty things or trash so it isn't spread out so far for the crew.

Agree .... Having more trash cans around would be helpful.

Me too! Just putting my empty bottle or wadded up napkin on a table or some other surface for someone else to clean up goes against my grain. I feel like a slob, but in most areas of the ship there is no option other than carry it back to your room and throw it away.

If it really bothers you, just drop it in the trash can in one of the many bathrooms.

This is the exact answer I was given also. Makes sense to me. People have a tendency to throw whatever in the recycle containers and if you leave it on a table for the staff...they put it where it should be and actually makes the job easier.

I know it's not what they are intended for...but all those tiny trash cans outside the public bathrooms for the paper towels they provide to open the doors (which is the best idea ever, too bad I never see anyone doing it)-I thrown whatever I wanted to dispose of in there. Usually it is just something paper anyway, but it is a trash can and I feel weird just putting it on a table or asking a bartender to take my garbage for me.

I have always just assumed that they want you to leave your stuff at the tables or wherever you last were and they will pick it up. Carnival is amazing at having staff constantly cleaning so nothing sits at a table for very long.

I usually feel uncomfortable doing this but after the first day onboard you realize there is no where to empty your tray or throw away trash, this is obviously how they want it done.

I agree!

As a mom of 4, I am constantly cleaning up something or telling the kids to clean up. When we were on the cruise, it was so hard trying to find places to throw stuff away...

Also, I am a "plate stacker" and combiner. I will stack all of our plates and make small piles, so it is easier to clean the tables. I was told constantly (even a few times by our MDR waiter), when we were eating at the Lido, to "please don't stack, that is our job.. You are on vacation.." I never realized now, I was probably causing them to do more work.. My kids are very sloppy eaters though and I feel horrible leaving the mess behind (of course, I have seen just 1 person leave more than we have, at a table too)...

I know we pay for it but to me, it is a basic human service. Sometimes, I don't even want to clean behind my own kids, so I know others wouldn't either..

I'm an adult capable of throwing my own stuff away though. The workers are busy. Even at the buffet I stack my plates, wipe the table and bring the plates to the server stations they have in that area. That may be because of my years in the service industry. I even do this at home when I go out to eat, except bringing them to them. The ship is a crowded place though. If everyone leaves cups, cans, bottles, napkins, funtimes, or anything else for that matter on a bunch of tables then theres no room for anyone to sit and a lot more work for someone cleaning up to do. I understand the CD's response that someone said, but there has to be a better way.

I also usually use those little bins outside of the restrooms, but those can fill up quick. Theres not usually much trash I see on a ship as not much is disposable, but if they put the containers by the elevators on all the floors and maybe on both sides of the casino I think thats all thats needed for the ship.

As a cruiser I'm much more likely to be pleased with my cruise if I'm not constantly stuck with trash and/or looking at trash everywhere I go.

I've also noticed the lack of trash cans. I usually just go into the bathroom to get rid of it.

I am capable of throwing my trash away as well if a receptacle is made available. But as many here have said, I do not feel comfortable just leaving my trash on a table and I provided an alternative. If you feel more at ease complaining about something here that will in no way affect change on board ship, feel free to do so. Me, I'll be kind enough to take it somewhere to be thrown away if a trash receptacle has not been provided.

Sorry I meant to quote you for the second part not the first. I didn't quote the other person and wasn't trying to rant toward you. Again though I always find a way to throw my stuff out, but it could be easier is all I was ultimately saying. The OP was just mentioning the lack of trash cans which I was agreeing with. I don't think that's complaining.
