Door decorations on NCL??

In an NCL roll call thread someone mentioned that NCL takes down any door decorations, considering them as litter.

Have any of you experienced this?

The reason I'm asking is because in Sept/Oct we will be on NCL Sun for 33 days on B2B2B cruises and I was going to put one magnetic sign, ordered from Vistaprint.com on our door. (It's the size that fits on a car door for advertising.) It would simply say:

33 Days Onboard.

Northern Europe,

Transatlantic,

Caribbean

last line would have our first names and a flower in bottom right corner.

Will that be taken down as litter? It's not paper and wouldn't be taped. If I remember correctly, the door is magnetic.

We had a notice from the Group Coordinator on the Star that door decorations were not allowed - but we had a magnetic sign on our door for all 13 days.

Our current sign (which is reusable) says Cruising from the port of XXXXX, NM with our names. The artwork is a silhouette of a ship at sunset.

Many people on our current roll call have ordered magnetic door signs from VistaPrint.com - I think we are keeping them in business. ;) And their prices can't be beat (free). :D

We have never had our door decore removed. Some of it has been played with :D but it was never removed. On the other hand there have been others who have. Not sure what crosses the line but your sign sounds fine. Here is a picture of our door on the Star.

THANKS for the replies reassuring me that our magnetic door sign will probably be fine. I've never used a door decoration before on any of our cruises, but 33 days is almost twice as long as our longest cruise (also on the Sun) up until this time. So I thought I'd make the door 'homelike'.

OceanDreaming2: I'm laughing at the idea of anywhere in NM having a port. Where in this southwest desert are you? We're between Deming and Las Cruces in the southern area of NM.

Only a New Mexican would appreciate our door sign! Hmmm, between Deming and LC -- are you somewhere around Arroyo Seco? We're in LC. If you come here for shopping, maybe we could get together and discuss cruising. I'm impressed with your Jewel cruise of 33 days. And I thought our 21 dayer was awesome.

We were just on the Star March 6th and I had a personalized door sign 8x11 I made on printable magnetic paper. It was very well done with pictures of us. It was taken down and placed on our bed. I put it out again the next day and again it was removed and placed back on the bed with a note stating that door signs and decorations are not allowed to be posted on cabin doors. I had to enjoy it for the rest of the days on the inside of our cabin.

I was on the Pearl over Thanksgiving 2009 and had a Cruise Critic magnet on the door which disappeared about halfway through the cruise. Not sure if NCL took it down or some obnoxious kid. After that I won't bother risking losing something else placed on the door.

I had a Vista Print sign made up for our Panama Canal cruise in December on the Star. It stayed on our cabin door the whole cruise. Actually it had some blank space on it so I brought along dry erase markers and added Christmas themed drawings and Bible verses to it, that changed a few times throughout our 13 day sailing. We had a balcony cabin on deck 10 right near the elevators so got lots of traffic from time to time. I had no idea at that time that anyone was having problems with NCL taking down things on cabin doors! (guess ignorance is bliss ;))

I'm not sure where Arroyo Seco is. We're at I-10's exit 102, the Akela exit where Bowlins Akela Flats tourist store is and where Apache Homelands was going to put a casino but it got nixed. Now it's just an eating place.

We don't shop much in LC but hubby's Primary Care Provider is at the V.A. Clinic in L.C. [He's a Korean War era veteran]. His PCP was at the V.A. in EL Paso for years but that got to be too much of a drive, especially for sick call, so he recently was accepted at V.A. in LC instead. Much closer but all his referral Drs are still in El Paso.

I'm excited about our 33 day cruise. We love the sea days on transatlantic cruises so had talked to TA about the ta on the Sun. Since adding the Caribbean was just a bit more we booked the ta plus Caribbean as a 19 day cruise.

Then the drydock on the Sun was cancelled and replaced by a 14 day cruise roundtrip Dover sailing to Norway, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Shetland Islands, Scotland, and Ireland. The price was great and we'd already be paying airfare to Dover anyway for the ta so we had that awesome itinerary added to our 19 day booking. I think those 14 days are now just about sold out even though it's almost six months until the cruise.

We're in the same cabin for all 33 days so don't have to move. It's a porthole on the lowest deck but so long as we have daylight in the morning we're fine. We've sailed in an inside twice and decided that we wanted at least some light. We've done a ta in a porthole before.

My email address is MaryK57 at yahoo dot com if you want to talk cruises or NM WINDY weather or anything else. It would be nifty to get together some time.

Hmmm. That's interesting since others here with magnetic signs from VistaPrint seem to have been able to have their signs left of the door. I wonder if the difference is the type of magnetic material.

I guess I'll pack mine, put it on the door and hope it stays up. At least it is returned to you if removed by NCL personnel.

I have a Cruise Critic magnet that I'll put on our door for our Alaska cruise but it'll probably get taken by a passerby. Folks on HAL board who decorate their doors have often had non-personalized magnets swiped.

Now I DID have that same thing happen with a plastic banner made just for the CC groups cruising the Panama Canal in 09. I hung it up in the morning on our balcony at the first port (Cartagena) and when we looked up to our floor from the shore after we exited the ship for our excursion it was no longer hanging out there. Found it folded neatly on the little table on our balcony and never hung it out there again. BUT our magnetic Vista prints door sign was never removed. :)

In January, on the Jewel I had arranged the M&G, so I guess the management thought that I was the boss of the CCers (Hah!)- they sent me a note telling me to tell the others not to use signs- I ignored it- it was after our M&G anyway, so I didn't really see them. The doors on the Jewel are in a louvered style, so signs would not hang flat- maybe it was designed that way on purpose. During the 2 weeks we were on the Jewel I saw a few small stickers and foam cut-outs, but no big signs. Personally I like them- they can be very cute and festive- perhaps having a word with your room steward would help- stewards generally want to please and if you are friendly they usually respond.;)

When you have a sea of 100's of look-alike doors, decorating your own makes it so much easier to find! ;)

It's also fun and makes for a great souvenir! We have all our past cruise magnets on the backside of our garage door. I always have wonderful memories when I see them. :D

I've always put up lightweight cardboard bunnies (we mostly cruise at spring break/Easter) and have never have NCL take one down yet. We'll be cruising in 3 days for yet another spring break cruise on the POA. The DS is 14 now, but the bunny still goes up!:D

Thanks NMlady for posting this thread, I guess I'll try decorating and just see what happens. Now, is VistaPrint a website and do they design magnetic signs or do you make up your own and they print it for you??

Geez I feel like such a newbie!

Geez I feel like such a newbie!

The web site is:

http://www.vistaprint.com

If you join their mailing list, they'll send you deals for getting the magnet for free, just pay shipping and a fee if you use your own design. I saved the e-mails so if you'd like me to forward it, just e-mail me (link in signature).

Vistaprint has some templates but the best ones you design yourself and upload the design.

Here are some of my past magnets to spark some inspiration:

Thanks Goddess for sharing your pics and the website link. I suppose I might be able to come up with a decent door considering I'll be using that door for 12 days. :D

I bought magnetic sheets for the computer printer and printed a sign with my parents' wedding picture and one from the day we surprised them with the cruise tickets. I had their names and 65th anniversary celebration printed beside the pictures. I also put a pad of heart-shaped sticky notes and a pen hanging from some yarn beside it. Lots of people wrote them sweet congratulatory notes. Even the captain came by and wrote them a note! They were thrilled! My dad was a navy "flyboy" during WW II. Having the captain of a ship write a personal note was more special to him than you can imagine. It will forever be a treasured memory. So my advice is to make your signs and memories while you can. Happy cruising!!;) Debbie
