What to do in Nassau if we don't book a shore excursion?

I was in Nassau last month and our ship dock from noon to 6:30 pm.

We walk to Atlantis. Easy walk along the roadsides and across the bridge. Be sure to bring umbrella, water and good walking shoes. Before you get to the casino, there are shops near there. We walk inside the casino until we cant go further due to a day pass. Dont pay for a day pass. Those casino make so much money and still want a day pass???

I want to walk back but wife say no. Its $4 per pax standard. When we get back to pier, we walk to queens stairs(strange place), then walk to the straw market, hang around there and hang around Senior Frog. Walk some more around there. Then its back to the ship.

I had my walking app on and I walk 4 miles.

This is an easy and fun little walking tour (about 2 hours'ish)

Can you tell me where Senor Frog is and also Fish Fry? Actually can someone explain what is Fish Fry? I assume it is a restaurant?

We've been to Nassau several times and roughly followed the walking tour route twice. At no time did I feel any concern about safety. I find the locals nice and friendly. Or else they just ignore you going on about their business.

Going in Sept too. Looking for a snorkle excursion or something. Not looking to book with the ship

We are going in September on Elation and Are doing the same excursion I've done before (hubby hasn't). I loved the catamaran sail and snorkel last time. It was a great experience and we're going in the morning so we can walk around before the ship leaves in the afternoon.

We are booking through the ship this time because hubby feels safer doing it that way but I've done the same trip booked off the ship and it was still great.

I don't know how I missed a post about rolling cigars but please tell me where to do this. My husband would love that activity

Lunch at Fish Fry is also great.

Is this a restaurant and where about is it on the map please? I've heard people mention it before in their posts.

Have now booked the Breakaway out of New York over New Year :D and have downloaded both the walking map and the detailed description of each stop. Getting excited now.

Two questions (probably more to come!)

What exactly is Fish Fry and where is it on the map?

I understand there is a rum distillery. Can you just turn up on the day or do you have to book? And again, where is it on the map?

We will be in port 7-2 on a Sunday, will much be open? We would prefer to just stay on the ship but will be with another couple who has never been to Nassau, so maybe the walking tour is the best plan for us?

Is that July second or February seventh?

If you're talking about the Frommer's walking tour map, John Watling's rum distillery is located near number 13. There's also a map on their website: http://www.johnwatlings.com/visit/about-us/. You don't need to book anything. The tour is basically a self-guided walk around the property. Great mojitos. :)

The Fish Fry is not on the Frommer's map. It is about a mile and a half walk, heading west on West Bay Street. Here is some information I posted about it on my blog: http://susancrow.blogspot.com/2014/09/nassaus-fish-fry.html

The cigar factory is in the Graycliff Hotel. Here's some info: http://www.graycliff.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=67&Itemid=295

Have you been before? Do I need to sign up somewhere so my husband can learn how to roll one?

We have been to Graycliff before but never did any cigar rolling. We bought some cigars at their shop a couple of times and did the chocolate factory tour once.

It looks like you need to contact the hotel to get more information about the cigar rolling lessons. There is a Contact Us link on the page.

We are on the Allure sailing in April - Spring Break week - and are in Nassau 7am-2pm and I do not know what to do. I am traveling with Hubby and my kids age 6 & 9 at sailing. Thinking of leisurely getting off the ship and shopping near port maybe walking to Junkanoo. Spend an hour then then spend the rest of the day on the ship. If we do a tour - I'm unsure if we should book through the ship.

"Fish Fry" is another name for "Arawak Caye" which is located just past Junkanoo Beach, about a 15-20 minute walk from the port area. Its a collection of seafood places. Great food! Our favorite is Twin Brothers but you really can't go wrong with any of them.
