BoiseIdahoSpud Posted December 29, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 29, 2008 Hi: Does anyone have any experience with having a HAL captain perform a civil union at sea? Not in port (we are aware of the restrictions in port) - but at sea? We're thinking of this as an option in 2009 and sending an open invitation to family and friends to join as their schedules permit. We prefer the idea of the captain performing the ceremony but are open to a member of the clergy as well. My understanding is that these matters are totally at the captain's discretion. But I have also heard that, because Holland is so progressive in civil marriage laws, HAL captains are more than willing to assist Americans who don't have the same freedoms at home. Does anyone have any experience with HAL in this area? Thanks for any tips or advice, Pete:)
