Default Can we get the same waiter each night?

Okay here goes...we have been on many cruises with four different lines. We LIKE/LOVE having the same waiter and assistant each night. I like the rapport that occurs.

We are on a twelve night cruise and would prefer that we get to know our wait team. We value and appreciate great service, and have found that we have a better experience if our wait team is consistent.

Can we reserve or request the same waiter for each night in the main dining room?

Yes, you can request the same wait staff. I'm not sure if they stay in the same MDR for the entire cruise so that's something you may want to check with your waiters about, to make sure you go to the right one to find them. But absolutely, you can request it.

We have never had a problem just went to the dinning room and asked every night we usually went around the same time.
On the nights they had off we would go to a specialty restaurant. When we board the ship again we always ask if they are still on board and
surprise some of them have been. We have even to our surprise ran into them on other ships since they move around.
I think they love the connection by the end of the cruise as much as we loved their service!

You would have to request that person when you get to the restauant and they should seat you at their station.
Enjoy!!

Scott !!! I hope you're going to decorate your cabin again with the "clap on clap off " items again. We still laugh at that, good thing I video taped it.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but as soon as I spotted who posted this, I had to say hello. Hope you and Robert are well, I chat with Clay quite often so it's nice to catch up with news. Ilene and I are off to Europe this summer, can't wait. Going back to the "homeland" on the Jade Greek Isles. Born here and have never been to Greece to it will be a treat.
As for your question about waiters, when we were on the Sun with you guys, we had an excellent waiter in MDR. So we asked the Hostess to put us in the section that Joffery was working, no problem. If you don't ask you won't get. Our biggest regret from the Sun cruise was that we never got together with everyone from our M&G for a dinner somewhere. We all had such a great time. I never got your email address so I just want to tell you that it was a pleasure meeting both you and Robert. Ilene and I look forward to cruising with everyone if the opportunity ever presented itself again.

Enjoy your cruise

cheers...the Ump (Tasso and Ilene)...

We're just off the 12 day cruise on the Jewel and fell in love with our waiter in Tsar's the first night. We requested to have him the rest of the cruise, and the understanding was that they are moved from section to section in the same dining room each night, so we got to sit in a different area each night.

We made the reservation the first night for the rest of the cruise, and when plans changed (e.g. going to a specialty restaurant) we were sure to cancel our MDR reservation for that night.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who enjoys having the same waiter.

You'll have to change waiters once you disembark the cruise. I was so disappointed when I returned to the Star that my waiter from the previous cruise was on vacation. I went on a hunger strike and only ate breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner.

I am now cleaning my screen. Thanks for the belly laugh.

OP The servers do not necessarily stay in the same restaurants each evening. Theoretically you could go to the restaurants where they are serving which might be specialty restaurants as well as at varying times.

If they happen to be in the same restaurant while you're there, you can ask to be seated in their section, but bear in mind that you might have to wait longer if there is no available seating in that section at the time.

Our first 2 NCL cruises in 2007 and 2008, we were able to be in the same wait staff's area, maybe not the same table. By the time we went in 2010, that was not possible even though we were in a suite and had the same table every night. We were very disappointed with the MDR on that cruise for both the waitstaff and the food. We could never get someone to take our wine order and the sevice was poor for food. For that reason, we went back to Princess for 3 cruises and Celebrity for one. I have read that NCL has improved the food and service in the MDR, so we are giving the Jade another try.

On our Jewel cruise in 2010 we *loved* our waitress, Josephine, the first night. The next couple of nights, we requested a table in her section. By the 4th night, "our" table had a reserved sign on it, just waiting for us!

We did just this on the Sun during our Baltic trip. We fell in love with our server, sweet Mary Lane, and the rest of her team. While you will not be in the same section or same table every time. We did request to have a table where she was working and were accommodated every time.

We could never be sure we would get the waiter we wanted. So, we hired our own, booked him a room on the ship and he just walked around with us so he could always be available. It worked out so well, we brought him home with us and gave him his own room. We do let him have a night off one day a month.

Default What I had to do to get my favorite waiter

Had a great waiter at my dinner in the MDR. The next night, I requested the same waiter and was told that I had to wait until a table opened up in his service area. Waited ten minutes and got him to serve us again. Very enjoyable experience. He really knows how to serve.

To the OP:

You can ask, but it's not guaranteed. Sometimes the wait staff move around the ship. They might be in the other MDR, a specialty restaurant, the buffet, or even running room service.
