Docking in St. Thomas?

Thanks, I was so hoping HAL had changed their docking site. Last time I was on the Veendam and we docked in St. Thomas was at Crown Bay, not much was there as everything was under construction, has this area improved? How does it compare to Havensight?

HAL seems to use Crown Bay mostly. Just returned yesterday from a Eurodam cruise and it was Crown Bay. Cost is $4 pp to get to town and another $4pp to return. The Oasis or its sister ship was there. It was crowded but the taxi service was very efficient. They use open trams and it's sort of fun.

Almost all HAL and Princess ships dock at Crown Bay almost all the time.

There are rare exceptions such as Noordam a few weeks ago docked at Havensight but that was a rare event.

They have built Crown Bay some from when they first started using the area but these satellite stores are fewer and smaller. Nevertheless, there are some shops to browse and walk around.

Was on Princess in Jan. and we docked at Havenside. Last week I noticed that another Princess ship was again docked at Havenside. Princess may have changed locations for some cruises even tho Carnival heavily invested in Crown Bay.

Crown Bay is not Havensight but, as has been stated, HAL ships berth there for the most part (been to Havensight on Maasdam in late 2011 but that was because we were Code Red and Westerdam was going to Crown Bay. and just last December on Maasdam we anchored and tendered to the downtown dock).

Crown Bay has several stores open + a nice WiFi area. If you walk another 10 minutes, the co-located Crown Bay Marina has a nice pub-restaurant, Tickles, and a mini-market located next door to same

The last time we were docked at Crown bay we did walk to the Marina but did not go further as thought it was private. We usually like to have a Bushwacker drink when in St. Thomas and I'm sure it would be a nicer place to go to the pub-restaurant, Tickles, for one and some apps. Do you know if the mini-market sells wine? If we dock at Havensight we walk to Cohens market to buy wine. Will be in St. Thomas April 16.

The mini-market is actually a yacht provisioning store by the name of Gourmet Gallery. It is open to the public and has a very nice selection of wines. When you exit Crown Bay Dock via the main gate to the right, head straight for the marina. Tickle's Dock side pub is located caddy corner to right/end of the dock. Gourmet Gallery is located next door/ to the left of the pub/restuarant

Many thanks for the information. We will be going for our Bushwackers to Tickles. Also will be buying some wine at the mini - grocer. The brochure sure sounds like they will provision yachts very well.

We like Havensight better. We used to enjoy the walk to town but we can't walk to town from Crown Bay. There is a stretch that isn't very safe and there aren't sidewalks the whole way. It's also just that bit further that, on a hot, humid day makes it less pleasant walking IMO

There is certainly more food and shopping at Havensight. There are far fewer small, satelite shops at Crown Bay.

Crew liked they were near a WalMart at Havensight but it's further for them from Crown Bay.
