What to bring to baths

Sorry - I know there are a million threads already on the baths, and I did search and read a bunch but couldn't find the information I'm looking for. We are going to Tortola next week and taking the ferry to the Baths. I'm unclear on what a. to bring, and b. to do with what we bring. We will have a waterproof camera and waterproof pouch for money so not worried about valuables but for any "beach/swimming" stop, I would normally bring towels, change of clothes, etc. What do you do with that? From what I read it appears you start in one place and end up in another place. Is there a central location to leave personal stuff? Do I need to bring a backpack to carry it with us, and will that make getting through the caves difficult?

I have not been but I personally would take at least a small backpack with change of clothes and you have to wear shoes that are appropriate for rough/slippery terrain from what I've read so maybe you need flip

Flops too if u also do a beach stop?

We went in our bathing suits and cover ups. We (the hubby) carried a backpack with towels. The backpack did make it difficult to get through the rocks in a couple of places. I think there are lockers you can rent before taking the trail down to the beach.

I read that, maybe I'm missing something but didn't see an answer to my question. Was already planning on wearing a bathing suit and having waterproof camera but still unsure about towels and change of clothes.

Also, reference the lockers, one of the posts I read said you can leave stuff in the lockers but you end up in a different place so it's hard to get back to them??

The lockers should be near the restaurant which is where all the tours are dropped off and picked up at. There are a couple of different paths you can take to get to the beach, but eventually you'll end up back by the restaurant.

The best bet is to pack light... There are lockers at Baths Beach, but if you plan on going through the caves to Devils Bay, you will need to come back through the caves in the opposite way of "traffic" Your best bet, and easiest route would be to walk down the paths directly to the Baths and proceed through the caves with all of your stuff (again, pack light) and when you get through to Devils Bay, stay there for a while then head up the other path up to the Top of the Baths (where you started)

  • 2 weeks later...

Forget the lockers, and do NOT return through the Baths from Devils Bay to the original path as that creates problems for other folks going toward Devils Bay. Take the normal path down to the beach and walk left through the boulders to Devils Bay. There is a a path from Devils Bay back to the Top of the Baths and the restaurant and restrooms.

Do pack light - wear swimwear (cover ups for the gals and shirts for the guys for the trip there and back please!), and footwear appropriate for walking a natural path and maneuvering through the boulders. Would not recommend flip flops for example. I wear a string backpack to carry towels, sunscreen, small camera, etc, very light and easily removed in tighter spots.

The Baths are a unique experience, and when other folks don't make a mess by going in two directions it's very enjoyable and Devils Bay is nice!
