fizzy, Interesting as I posted a specific question about your evaluation of a good job and why you wouldn't want acknowledgement of having done so well in your own opinion. No answer

I took so long I don't sit and monitor CC every minute of the day. I very clearly stated that I have yet to find a crew member who was not doing an excellent job and that would be why I would choose the company. So... how do I find the names of all the staff that you feel I should be mentioning? Does that include back of and below the house? Not that it should matter but I work 357 days a year including all holidays and do just fine. I do not need any assignments. I choose certain cruiselines because of the stellar experience they offer and that I pay for. Is it possible that the staff ever find it nerve wracking to know that there are some who seem to dissect each and every aspect of the cruise? We prefer to sit and relax and let them do what they do so well. How do I find out the name of the guy painting the anchor chain? That is also a specific question.

fizzy, I am referring to post 33 on this thread and my response in post 35. I will answer your question by saying you can always find an answer by asking the right person. In most cases it only takes a minute or two and they will get back to you.

newlondon: To be fair, it does take time (more time than to fill out a simple comment card) to learn the names of the staff that have provided wonderful service. We take the time to do that. If a passenger even wrote that we were in suite "xxx" and feel that the steward/stewardess did an exemplary job -- it would be helpful. The G.M. could figure out who was being mentioned. While we may not agree with fizzy, he/she is entitled to their opinion (and it is sad for anyone to work in an environment where appreciation is not shown). Perhaps, after reading some of the comments on this thread, they may decide to recognize the hard working individuals on Regent ships.

Using this logic, would I assume that if I were to make mention in a comment that the laundry service was outstanding (as it always is) and the speed and organization of our cleaning was top notch, would our butler be obliged to make a comment card to the folks below who did the rather unglamorous job of taking care of our laundry so that they would not feel sad and unappreciated? I come back and find things carefully hung, folded in drawers and like items in place. He could not do this without them, in my opinion.

It would be wonderful to address the laundry service on your comment card! There is room on the comment card to address anything -- it would not go through your butler. Of course, your butler is responsible for hanging clothes in your closet, etc. The comment card is the best way to show appreciation for the "unglamorous" jobs!!

In order to give props for promotions, I would then have to track down a supervisor to get the names of the folks who provided the great service for cabin#xyz on Tuesday morning down in the laundry. If everyone is doing this it would drive everyone crazy. If specific names are important, it would be the only way to go. I know you mean well. I'm done.

No -- you really wouldn't! They know your suite # -- if there is a special person or group of people who took care of your laundry, they would know who they are (note: the G.M. reads all comment cards -- he speaks to the supervisors in each area regarding issues mentioned on the comment card.) BTW, comments also are filtered back to corporate in Miami!

If you remove the barriers you are envisioning, it is really quite simple. The only areas where it is a bit more difficult is the restaurants. Fortunately the staff wear nametags and don't mind telling you their name if you can't read it.

I understand that you're done -- don't expect a response...... just think about what everyone on this thread has posted and consider it for your next cruise.

Default Going in Circles

Another thread just going in circles. The bottom line is some people don't care about the names of the staff. They care that they got what they expect for the fare they paid. They care that the staff is cared for by their employer with fair wages and benefits, PCH, which hopefully made a profit for the stakeholders and investors. Truthfully, the staff is compensated at a level many who come from countries where the wages are minimal for survival and the job gives them a way to support their families luxuriously for the conditions from which they've come. They get food and experiences they would not have had otherwise. The corporate environment and culture are responsible for providing their employees with the positive reinforcement.

My job as a guest is to enjoy the fruits of my own labor which paid for all of the other aspects of my travel experience. I pay more, I expect more. I can pay $999 for a week on Princess for a mini suite similar in size to a standard Regent Cabin or I can pay $5999 (of course buy one get one free taken into account) for a Regent Cruise. Either way, just like choosing which cruise line to sail, I get to choose how I spend my time. It won't be chasing down the name of the lady from Bulgaria who folded the towels or the seaman who painted the anchor chain. I will write on my comment card what was good ...or bad...but I sure as hell won't be filling out boxes with a number 2 pencil for the price I paid and the repeat cruises I have had - they can guess that if I have come back for 200 nights, that I had a modicum of satisfaction even if they didn't stock Grey Goose in 2007 in the Observation Lounge.

You are honest that you don't care..
The last night I am either packing, at the casino or the show if there is one.

Packing done, never visit the casino, yet to see a show on the last night; usually isn't one!
People do things differently!

I always carry some paper and a pen and pencil wherever I am on the ship. Whenever I experience good service I immediately write down the name of the staff member and the department. That way I don't have to try and juggle my memory when it comes time to fill out the comment card.

I do the same thing and usually end up with small pieces of paper with names on them in different purses. We usually do the comment card the day or night before disembarkation. There is always time to do something nice for the crew and helpful to Regent. IMO, without communication from their loyal passengers, the new ship that is being built would not have customer input -- would probably not have single suites or many of the other amenities that we will no doubt see on the Explorer.

You're correct...

Many of the threads seem to be grinding into dust.

Interesting response, Kathy, and absolutely understandable. As I said, however, people do things differently. DW and I cruise to enjoy each other not to socialize. We agree our 5 week cruise through Southeast Asia was one of our best times together.
Therefore, when someone has done something to make our experience better we acknowledge it; likewise in the opposite direction.
