Galveston in December

Recommended Posts

We are considering doing a Disney cruise in early December and I was reading some reviews that say the weather this time of year (especially near Galveston) is awful and the water is super rough. Was this an exaggeration? I've cruised once in December but from a different port and don't recall anything unusual.

Thanks!

Mother Nature has control on the future .

Has weather been bad in Texas in December YES

Has weather been good and perfect in Texas in December YES

Make your plans and enjoy your cruise.

Any bad weather here most likely goes to Florida and East coast anyway.

Timing with mother nature is everything wherever you are in December !

Fog. Lots of fog.[/quote

Mother Nature again !

Fog can happen YES

But can depend on El Niño and La Nina years.

Some years have had more fog ,

And other years not a lot.

And just because there is fog does not mean it's on the day of your cruise, does not mean it lasts long. Fog is present everywhere in the world , not just the Gulf Coast.

Besides the Galveston Port has now worked with Cruise lines and Coast Guard to allow ships to better navigate the channels in fog.

Make your plans and enjoy your cruise. Not just in Texas.

Mother Nature is everywhere. You will not enjoy cruising , if you are in fear of Mother Nature and her forces !

Cruised on Disney from Galveston in December in 2012. Yes, it was cold. Polar Vortex winter. The weather first thing the next morning was glorious and warm and stayed that way until we arrived back in chilly Galveston.

  • 4 weeks later...

When one visit is foggy or cold for visitors then they think it's like that year round. Most December weekends we get around in a sweatshirt and shorts.

Galveston has an average of 10 delayed sailings for all cruise lines a year. That's with 4 full time ships and 2 more coming.

We have seen cold, drizzly sail away followed by sunshine the rest of the time on more than one Galveston cruise. We have another Christmas cruise scheduled this year round trip out of Galveston. Cruising weather can be changeable wherever you go. Have a great cruise and enjoy yourselves.
