Just found out I'm pregnant and my cruise is in less than 2 weeks

Recommended Posts

Anyone with a similar experience? Booked for a 7 day on Sunshine. I was really looking forward to those drinks.....do they all have virgin options?? Also, is this atmosphere going to be okay for me?

Congratulations! Yes most drinks can be made as virgin options, You should be just fine, especially if "your condition" is very early in the process. Assuming you physician see's no issues then just remember to be your self and cut loose and have fun...in a slightly moderated way. ;)

Congratulations,

Plenty of Virgin options,

I can see nothing to worry about if it is just a normal straightforward pregnancy, the only ??? I may have is seasickness, combined with morning sickness, [could be a nasty combination, or you might avoid both]ask your Dr about treatments before you go would be my advice

Congratulations! My wife sailed when she was pregnant with our second child and had just as much fun as on other cruises. One piece of advice that I would give you is that, if you haven't purchased your travel insurance yet, to verify that it does cover medical expenses due to pregnancy complications. Many policies will not. I purchased a policy that specifically covered this type of medical expense. For us, it provided an added layer of peace of mind since it was the first time that we sailed while pregnant.

Have a great time!

Just check with your OBGYN. We were told the best time to cruise while pregnant was the mid trimester. He/she will advise you best.

Absolutely!!

My son and daughter in law just sailed the Sunshine last week and she was 20-weeks. She reported back that there were LOTS of options.

There was even a statement on the bottom of the Alchemy Bar menu - which I've attached. [emoji106][emoji4]ImageUploadedByForums1429621837.624754.jpg.b6f7ed8d47ed394fd695f151033f145e.jpg

Oh....I'd also make sure you file the release from your doctor through Carnival. DDL said she saw some having trouble at check in because they didn't have (or hadn't filed) the required release. [emoji15]

She was VERY happy that she'd submitted hers and had no issues at all! [emoji6]

Enjoy!!

First, CONGRATULATIONS !!

Second, if you have just found out, then you are probably very early on in your pregnancy and not showing ? Definitely check in with your Dr. to ensure that at this point everything is going according to plan.

Only you know your body, but if this is your first pregnancy, things may arise which you might not have anticipated (morning sickness, or a feeling of unwell). If this is not your first, then you should know what to expect (or it could be the complete opposite of what you have experienced before lol).

Agree with others that planning for the possibility of being sick is best. Your physician will be able to best advise you on products you can or cannot use. This way, you are prepared.

You might want to reconsider excursions you may have booked just in case, but other than that, have a fantastic cruise !

Atmosphere OK? Well, that too is subjective. I might suggest steering clear of the casino areas as it has been consistently reported that it is very smokey. Since a new one is one the way, you may not be gambling anyway.. :)

Yes, of course there are plenty of options for virgin drinks. My kids drink them all the time on cruises.

Congratulations.

Sounds like it must be very early if you just found out. Wonder how many go and party hard not knowing yet they are. Speaking of the subject, wonder how many come back pregnant!:D

If your cruise is paid for I really don't think you should be getting on a ship. You need to just send me all the info and let me go for you!

You should be fine just as others have said. Congratulations and enjoy your cruise! Let the cruise be in celebration of your recent news!:)

Go and have fun! My wife and I were on a 7 day aboard the Liberty in December of 2013 and she partied and drank like always. The week after we returned home she found out she was pregnant! She then went with a friend on the Sensation the following March and did everything she normally would other than not drinking alcohol. She suffered no ill affects from the cruises and our little girl was born last August perfectly healthy.

Definitely check with your doctor for seasick meds. Stay out of the hot tub. No strenuous excursions.

I'd say check into sea bands, no chemicals. Bring or get saltines for standby use. I've seen people write about green apples. Another thing is ginger, it can be gotten in gum, again no chemicals.

Congrats OP..plenty of info here....just congrats and enjoy your cruise with minor cautions.....fresh air and ok remedies are much better than being home if you get a little squeemish...not everyone does and I admit it was a road I did not take...but 3 younger sisters and now a few of next generation are on it..many do not have the morning sickness and many not too bad...

First I want to say Congratulations!

While there are a lot of virgin drinks out there you shouldn't have much of an issue at all.

I want to mention something a little different though with your cruise because you don't have where you are from in your profile on here.

I went to visit family in Texas when I was about 5 weeks pregnant and had just found out. We live in the Northeast. The difference in the sun quality TORE me up! I had never gotten even sunburned before this and had used my regular sunscreen (SPF 30 and I have a pretty dark Italian complexion). I did not get rid of the resulting tan lines/marks from one day at Galveston beach until my son was almost 3 years old.

The sun can really affect you differently when you are pregnant I found out to late. I would suggest packing extra strength sun screen and reapply it constantly!

Just get with your doctor to make sure baby is healthy so far and to get some advice on morning sickness! I'll be 18 weeks when we leave on the Dream on Sunday. I'm pretty much over M/S, but my doctor suggested I take the meds I have leftover and some dramamine just in case. Drink lots of water and use sunscreen. If you had planned on doing any massages, saunas, or hot tubs in the spa, you'll want to re-think that. Unless they have someone who knows how to do a prenatal massage.

Have fun!

Congrats!

Now, just make sure you keep hydrated at sea.

Repeat.

This. Really, really important to keep hydrated while pregnant, especially going to the Caribbean. Sailed at 14 weeks and around 20 weeks and really enjoyed both cruises. Congrats on your pregnancy!

Ask your doctor if there is some approved medicine you can take for motion sickness, the natural way is ginger root pills which I would not think would be an issue for either of you. Get them at Wal mart or any pharmacy.

Its what sailors used (ginger) back in the days

I would get the form filled out even though you won't be showing. They sometimes ask you directly at check-in if you are pregnant.

Regarding the hot tubs -- my midwife's advice was that you should not let yourself get uncomfortably hot or dehydrated. So go ahead and stick your legs in the water if it feels comfortable, but don't go farther in for more than a minute or two unless the water is lukewarm bathtub temp.

There are plenty of virgin drink options onboard and in port, and plenty of ways onboard to avoid a party atmosphere if you want. Believe me -- my husband hates drinking and loud music and still loves cruising. But it's also fine for you to be out there, dancing with a virgin drink in hand. :) As long as the morning sickness doesn't hit you too bad (I have read that ginger is recommended but you could ask your OB/midwife), it's great to have a "babymoon" vacation before the baby arrives. My husband and I went to Europe when I was five months pregnant.
