saldino Posted August 27, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2016 We're on the October 27 sailing, going to Key West and we've just read on the Key West Port Schedule that we're set to be docking at the Outer Mole and will need to take a shuttle to the main area of the island. Has anyone got any experience with this? Can you ride them in a wheelchair/scooter?? Any info anyone has would be appreciated!
ZellaLamb Posted August 29, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 29, 2016 Interesting question. My guess is that they have to provide access for everyone. Even the conch train has a ramp into it. You might want to call the cruise line and ask. I'd be curious to know the answer.
Kim84 Posted September 26, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 26, 2016 We did this on a Disney cruise back in 2012. There was an accessible shuttle so you could remain in your wheelchair, though I believe we ensured we requested it in advance and there was a small wait for it to arrive on the day. Key West was easy to get around and we used the Old Town Trolley without any issues.
kitty9 Posted September 27, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 27, 2016 When we were at the Outer Mole in March, there wasn't any kind of accessible shuttle to town, despite the fact that we requested it. None of the cars on the Conch Train had a ramp.
Cruseforme Posted September 27, 2016 #5 Share Posted September 27, 2016 We docked at Outer Mole last December, and as Darcie stated, there were only Conch trains offered. However a gentleman came down and discussed his wife's accessibility issue with the Conch Train rep outside, and within 15 minutes there was a small van with accessible lift at the dock. We know, because we actually drove in it with them into town. Going back, same small van took us all back. We did see it several times coming and going, so others were using it. My suggestion, is to have someone in your party go down to discuss directly with the port/transportation folks, the cruise reps on our ship (Riviera) didn't communicate with them as well it seems, as the gentleman stated he had asked them to confirm that accessible lift was available ahead of time.
