Living Vicariously!! (Gem 9 day Caribbean)
Hi All! I watched my Mom sail away on the Gem this afternoon via the New York Harbor webcam. This is her very first cruise! I'm very excited for her (this is probably an understatement.) In the weeks leading up to this trip I have been border line obsessive helping her prepare, shop, pack ect. I made sure I told her of all the great tips and Gem secrets, what food and which venues I think she'd enjoy. Sometimes I think I was more excited about this trip than she was! I had an awesome experience aboard The Gem last May and I hope she will too. I am just curious what entertainment/shows are scheduled for the 9 day Caribbean itinerary and would love to hear from anyone who has recently done this itinerary. This would help with the living vicariously part
 I was on the 7 day Bahamas spring, so I'm sure there will be some differences. Would also love to hear from anyone currently aboard the Gem! How are the seas? How's the overall experience so far? Thanks!

I was on the 2/5 cruise having done the Bahamas one last year....9 days is so much better!
Re entertainment: Someone is listening as it is quite varied. There is a comedian/hypnotist who did a few shows, Chicago's Second City (also a few shows), comedic ventriloquist Michael Ziegfeld, & comedian Jeff Harmes who I also saw last year and a male/female Cirque-style act, The Man from Mars along with the usual Gem singers/dancers. After the main shows there are also game shows usually up in the Spinnaker. and the seas were fine to me altho there were barf bags out one nite.

I watched her sail in yesterday morning as I was on the bus on the Lincoln Tunnel helix and then docked when I was leaving NYC.... I was wishing I was getting on her. Hope she has a great time! Awaiting Breakaway's arrival!

We got off the Gem yesterday, it was wonderful as usual. The seas coming home were a bit rocky but then again the weather along the eastern seaboard was rainy and windy.
I am sure she will have a great time. The weather in the islands was in the 80's and low humidity. We did not do the shows..we are Casino folks, but I heard from everyone who went that they were great.

Thanks everyone. I just checked the Gem webcam and it doesn't look too nice! Hopefully as the get further south it will improve. I checked the roll call and didn't see any recent action.

Got a message from her tonight and this was the first line: "you were right.. It's wonderful. We are half way to San Juan.. I haven't been sick at all. the people are great..guest and staff" YAY!!
