Default Seeing Whales From The Ship

I know that Dominica has Whale Excursions. Just curious, has anyone ever seen whales from the cruise ship as they were coming into port or going out here? Is there an area where we should be looking. When we were in Alaska they would let us know when we were most likely to see whales. I know they don't do that on the Carribean Cruises but just wondered.
