bobbie0253 Posted May 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2004 Hi, We currently have room 8257 on the Voyager for the first 5 night sailing this Sunday out of bayonne, NJ. I saw that a Guarantee promanade room opened up. There are still 10 or so suites available. If we switch our room assignment to a guarantee, we could end up with a really bad ocean view, or a great suite. What would you do? Stay put or play stateroom roulette? Thanks! cmason Posted May 11, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2004 I would think that this cruise is closed, so there would be no one buying a PR at the last minute, thus bumping you. The only thing that would help is if they oversold already, and then you may get bumped in the "great room upgrade chain." Seems highly unlikely at this point. Depends on whether you *really* want this location, or you are happy with any PR room. If any will do, then why not. ...left until Navigator of the Seas 11/13/
bobbie0253 Posted May 11, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted May 11, 2004 I really want a promanade room or a suite. As this cruise will probably be a bit rainy with a high of 50 degrees, a balcony isn't even appealing. We usually get really bad room assignments when we book a guarantee. Once in a guarantee room RCI is so stubborn they won't even allow you to take a lower cat. than assigned. Hmmm I still don't know which way to go with this one! gkrebs Posted May 11, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 11, 2004 I'm seeing balcony guarantess for 529. Call your travel agent and see if you can get an upgrade first before switching. Outside Guarantees are 429, and this is from the RCI website. Ironically, Promenade staterooms are costing more then the balconies at 609 LOL Gary Explorer of the Seas 10/24/04 Dawn Princess 10/12/03 Voyager of the Seas 12/01/02 Adventurer of the Seas 4/21/02 Sea Breeze 06/98 Atlantis 06/70 Time to Set Sail
bobbie0253 Posted May 11, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted May 11, 2004 Yeah but we only paid $299 pp for the PR Great deals on this cruise!
cmason Posted May 11, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 11, 2004 I would think the upgrade path is to an oceanview, then balcony, then suite. Seems to me the chances of getting a suite are astronomical. slightly better to get an oceanview. I would stand pat ...left until Navigator of the Seas 11/13/

paminohio Posted May 11, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 11, 2004 Bobbie: I'm keeping my fingers crossed for 50's and no rain as I upgraded to a balcony when the prices dropped. My thinking is that I'd rather have a BIG window looking outside as I'm a bit claustrophobic. I keep thinking, though, that if I downgraded (RCI told me I could have (as late as last week according to the person I spoke to)), I could have had a nice refund/shipboard credit! I keep second guessing my choice now!!! I've never cruised before and the next one I go on with be with my kids, too (so we won't be getting a balcony then as there are 5 of us so I'm picking a cheap room(s)) so I figured I would get one this time. How'd you get your promenade room so cheap?? Pam until Voyager
bobbie0253 Posted May 12, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted May 12, 2004 Pam, Two words...Happy Hour RCI runs a Happy Hour on Tuesday afternoons. We saw it and couldn't pass up the deal. You will love the balcony room. We had one on the Adventure. The balcony room feels MUCH bigger than Promanade room. Come see our room when we are on the ship, it just feels A LOT smaller. You have to try a balcony at least once. Since then we have done a Promanade, Oceanview, and Insides. They all have their good points. For price I like insides. I don't like spending money on a room when I can spend it on excursions. With the kids we book two insides too. I would like to do a balcony with them once just so they can see what it's like. Well, I better get some sleep! Talk to you soon! Bobbie
knowla1 Posted May 12, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 12, 2004 I would stand pat..if you are content with what you already have booked. I suggest that you try to get to the pier early and maybe pay for an upgrade.(if you are lucky) Booking guarantee's can be risky. Good luck and have fun. jhaasz Posted May 12, 2004 #15 Share Posted May 12, 2004 We are doing the Canada cruise on July 11th. About two weeks ago, my agent contacted me about a balcony guarantee. I would give up my great E1 cabin location and save $100 - but, the highest I could be upgraded to was a Cat. D1. After giving it much thought, I decided to stay where I was. Lo and behold, my travel agent left me a voice mail on Mother's Day. He was able to upgrade me to a Cat. D2 (with a cabin assignment - not a bad location at all) and save me $98. I am thrilled with how it worked out so, you never know! : ) 8/27/2004 - Voyager of the Seas 'til our 10th cruise!! 7/11/2004 - Voyager of the Seas (Cruise #10!) Laura No question is ever stupid It's all about learning. A guarantee is when you book a specific category, but not an assigned room. RCI then assigns you a room. They can assign you a room anywhere in that category or higher. Does that make sense? Your baby is beautiful by the way! Bobbie
