PappaSiera Posted May 18, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 18, 2004 About 6 months back, there was an aborted effort to hold a get together of fellow cruisers; never could choose a time or place. Well, the DW and I were at JB's Cheeseburger in Paradise, in Downers Grove, this last weekend, and got me dreaming of warmer and sunnier climes again. So, let's try this again! Before we start talking location and time, let's see who is interested first. So if you are SERIOUSLY interested in getting together with like-mindedly obsessed individuals, chime in. Once it looks like we have a good group going, then we can bother with the where’s and when's. I'll start it off; me and my MUCH better half live in the "Chicago NW Suburbs" (really closer to Rockford, and on a Friday late night, closer drive to my roots of Madison), we’re a couple of DINKs (which explains why we can afford to cruise as much as we do), older than we act, and, at least for my part, younger than we feel (especially after not acting my age!). So let’s get this thing rollin’! lunyma Posted May 19, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 19, 2004 Actually... I think it was about a year ago... But I am willing to try again. I guess for me, it would depend on *where* the location would be, more than day or time (in most cases, as I have 2 kids graduating soon)... I'm in S. Lake county, in Buffalo Grove. C4us Posted May 19, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 19, 2004 We're from Hoffman Estates and our first cruise ever will be the July 4-11 Mariner cruise out of Port Canaveral. We (mom and dad) hope to be able to go more often once the kidlings (17 and 14) stop sucking all the cash. Can't wait!! We should be getting our docs any day now! Cruise Miriam Posted May 19, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 19, 2004 Hey, can I join you? For me, right now, it will depend on when more than where. If I can't make it this time, perhaps another. I'm not sure where I'll be living or exactly when I'll be getting there.. yet. nlptes Posted May 19, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 19, 2004 Sounds like a possibility for me too. I'm in the city, but mom lives in Hoffman Estates... PappaSiera Posted May 20, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted May 20, 2004 Pretty good start. I'll let this run a few more days, then try to figure a central location, based on everyone's location (everyone, that is, except for you Miriam, for now. Although, if your still in the Turnerville 'burbs come next winter..... ) Enchantment 12/06/04 Radiance 11/28/2004 Monarch 2/23/2004 Majesty 1/12/04 Adventure 9/21/03 Majesty 2/24/03 Explorer 10/12/02 Explorer 9/22/

lunyma Posted May 20, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 20, 2004 It seems like there are quite a few in the Hoffman Estates area... Maybe something off rt 53, like in Schaumburg (Maggianos, Joes Crab Shack, etc...)... Anything off a major highway should be easy for most of us to get to... Just a suggestion... nlptes Posted May 25, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 25, 2004 I just had a thought, but it would mean driving to Navy Pier in Chicago... maybe we can go for a lunch CRUISE on The Spirit of Chicago? It's $38pp, boarding at 11, ships out at noon for 1-1/2 hours. Special pricing for seniors... Just another idea ! PappaSiera Posted May 27, 2004 Author #20 Share Posted May 27, 2004 A lake cruise sounds like a possibility. Bit of a drive for some of us, but that just gives me an excuse to get a room in the city, and take advantage of the nightlife post cruise Here's a link for a table of available river/lake cruises. We are typically available most weekends. I've recently had a few big projects land in my lap, so organizing an event will stretch me a little thin (I barely get on the boards more than once a week lately!). Any volunteers? nlptes Posted May 27, 2004 #21 Share Posted May 27, 2004 I'm here all the time ( - no life!) so I'd be happy to help out. Just don't want to step on any toes. Maybe next step would be to find out what weekend(s) would (or wouldn't) work for each of you. My (current) only NOT date is June 12/13 ... what about you guys? Comments, opinions, ideas... is cruise ok, or too far?
