Family of 14 Posted May 19, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 19, 2004 With just 8 weeks to go, I decided to check prices and discovered that the prime spot on the hump, 9618 was available. So was 9318 and the stateroom next to it. Someone must have cancelled after final payment. Anyway, I had tried to get that stateroom for my parents when we booked back in October, but it was taken. Called the TA and I have switched my parents to 9618. I plan to surprise them. They were in 1594 further down from us in 1688. Now, they will be right outside of the elevators and have that wonderful view. <MARQUEE>Are you sailing on the Mariner 7/18/04?...Click here! or HERE! </MARQUEE> Disney Wonder 3/2000 ~ Disney Magic 9/2000 ~ RCI Vision 2/2001 ~ Carnival Victory 12/2001 ~ Celebrity Millennium 3/2003 ~ RCI Adventure OTS 9/2003 ~ RCI Mariner OTS 7/18/2004 ~ RCI Serenade OTS 9/26/2004

aucruiser Posted May 20, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 20, 2004 Congratulations Family of 14! We will be sailing in that same cabin a few weeks after your parents. I'm sure they will be thrilled with the surprise. SeaUThere- If you look at a deck plan of Mariner, or the other Voyager family ships, the ship bows outward (gets wider) which creates a hump or bump-out area. The cabins in the "bump" project out a little further and the middle "bump" cabins have a great view in each direction from their balconies. pd9845 Posted May 20, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 20, 2004 Please explain, what is so great about rooms on the hump? (I'm assuming the hump is the large round circular section in the middle of the ship - right?) My husband and I booked our cruise 8 months in advance and specifically did not want a "hump" room because I thought it would be noisy considering the closeness to the elevators. This is going to be our first cruise - so, we're inexperienced... Did we make the wrong decision??? Mariner of the Seas - August 29th 2004
beachgirl55 Posted May 20, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 20, 2004 I wondered the same thing. We got 8616 which is directly below 9618. We booked a balcony guarantee for a great price and I figured that a negative was being directly across from the elevator. But according to the threads here this is not the case. Does being in the middle of the bump out weigh any negative from the elevator?
pinkrosesdeb Posted May 20, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 20, 2004 This will be our first time in a "hump" cabin. We have 1320 for next April. We were in a D1 aft last time and didn't enjoy it that much. Really looking forward to trying this new location! Let me know what they think when you get back. We have so long to wait!!! Deb
Family of 14 Posted May 20, 2004 Author #12 Share Posted May 20, 2004 There is no neqative to the elevators. There is actually a hallway and then a wall in between the staterooms and the elevators. This doesn't show on the drawing. Very quiet and oh so convenient. If you have a room on or near the center of the hump, you will have the best view possible on the Voyager class ship. If your stateroom is near the hump, your view will be blocked in one direction or another. pd9845 - I would have to know the l;ocation of your stateroom to tell you if you made a mistake or not. However, these rooms are hard to get, so chances are that they would not have been availabe anyway. beachgirl55 - You have the best spot! <MARQUEE>Are you sailing on the Mariner 7/18/04?...Click here! or HERE! </MARQUEE> Disney Wonder 3/2000 ~ Disney Magic 9/2000 ~ RCI Vision 2/2001 ~ Carnival Victory 12/2001 ~ Celebrity Millennium 3/2003 ~ RCI Adventure OTS 9/2003 ~ RCI Mariner OTS 7/18/2004 ~ RCI Serenade OTS 9/26/2004
beachgirl55 Posted May 20, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 20, 2004 How did I get the best spot with a guarantee? Wow? Actually on this particular cruise (VOS to Canada-June) within a couple of weeks after I booked, the inner rooms were more than what I paid for this balcony. I guess this one time I did things right. Usually, I think I pay top dollar for cruises--especially spring break.

aucruiser Posted May 20, 2004 #15 Share Posted May 20, 2004 I agree with Family. We were on the hump last August on Navigator on deck 8 and it was very quiet as far as corridor noise. It is definitely a convenient location too with the Windjammer and pool a few decks up. We liked it so much that we booked a hump cabin for this August on Mariner and splurged on our first Junior Suite.
pd9845 Posted May 20, 2004 #16 Share Posted May 20, 2004 Family of 14 - We are in Room 7288 (E2 - Balcony). However, I just went onto the website and noticed that room 6622 is still available. Mariner of the Seas - August 29th 2004
Family of 14 Posted May 21, 2004 Author #17 Share Posted May 21, 2004 7288 is not bad, but a center hump would be better. If 6622 is still available, you might want to change. It isn't in the center, but close to it. You would have further to walk from the 6th deck though. <MARQUEE>Are you sailing on the Mariner 7/18/04?...Click here! or HERE! </MARQUEE> Disney Wonder 3/2000 ~ Disney Magic 9/2000 ~ RCI Vision 2/2001 ~ Carnival Victory 12/2001 ~ Celebrity Millennium 3/2003 ~ RCI Adventure OTS 9/2003 ~ RCI Mariner OTS 7/18/2004 ~ RCI Serenade OTS 9/26/2004
gailc Posted May 21, 2004 #18 Share Posted May 21, 2004 Family of 14 - We were in cabin 9620 on AOS on 5/2/04. It was a balcony cabin right in the middle of the Bump. We had booked this cabin 8 months before the cruise. When we 1st walked into our cabin, we couldn't figure out what the big deal was about it. As the days went by, we figured it out. Since we were in the middle, we could look in front & in back of us when we were on the balcony. We were a few steps away from the elevators. They were quiet. We could walk up 2 decks to the buffet/pool deck. One deck below us were the computers. When we took the elevators to our dining room, it was also very close to the elevators. Cabin 9618 next to us was a mini-suite which was also in the middle of the Bump as was 9622. It was the best location we've ever had on a cruise. You usually have to book them far ahead or they're gone. The boards have made them very famous! Gail

rascalious Posted May 21, 2004 #20 Share Posted May 21, 2004 I agree with Family of 14. We were in the AOS center hump Junior Suite on the other side (starboard) cabin 9318 last year. We booked it again for this September. In our opinion it is perfect! No noise from the elevators, convenient location, walk-in closet, bathtub/shower, and the GREAT balcony view fore and aft. Love it, love it, love it! And yes, we booked it last October for September 2004! Check out my AOS and Caribe Hilton photos: http://community.webshots.com/user/rascalious NCL Norway 7/2001 E. Brian Zen Posted May 24, 2004 #23 Share Posted May 24, 2004 Family of 14- Congratulations! This is the cabin we had for our first ever cruise. This was on Explorer. Great cabin. We could see down both the front and back of the ship from there. At that time, with the right forcefullness, we had access to the Concierge Lounge with a Category C, which was literally across the hall from us. Elevator noise did not occur at all. This is a GREAT cabin. Have a fantastic time! Brian Until Carnival Pride and the Mexican Riviera! We have stayed in that stateroom before as well, but this time it is for my parents. jezzdogg - I would not get a hump unless it is in the center.
