Akaroa transport to Christchurch

We are arriving in Akaroa in January 2015, any tips on coach transport into Christchurch?

We did the ships transfer - got a fabulous commentary about the varying areas on the way in to Christchurch, and commentary about the re building of Christchurch. We got dropped at the Museum - that is fabulous. We caught the penguin bus to the Antarctic Centre right outside there. Didn't get chance to do the "Container shopping Centre" we were time poor - but with the ship transfer - if anything goes amiss - you're covered. Can't remember how much it cost - we were on the Dawn Princess last Christmas/New Year

There are local tours to ChCh, but as said above its best to go with the flow and take the ships tour. You have to tender ashore and they will have a bus waiting so you dont waste any time. There are still a few road closures around the City so routes and times can be very variable. At leasr the ship will wait for a ships tour to return if it is running late.

Not to put doom and gloom on your trip - but you are in the lap of the Gods. If weather decides it's going to misbehave that day:

1 - There is a chance you may not be able to go ashore - ships tour - money refunded.

2 - If you go ashore and you can't get back to the ship due to the weather - Cruiseline makes alternate arrangements. ONLY IF YOU BOOK YOUR TRANSFER THROUGH THEM. Otherwise, you're on your own.

These things have happened in the past - and cannot be predicted. Some on shore tours don't take money up front - and some who do will refund if you cannot get ashore. BUT DON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY if you cannot get back to the ship. If you are using a carrier other than the cruiseline double check refund policy BEFORE you book.
