Default breakfast around Marriott City Wall Beijing

Our room does not have breakfast included (yet) but would like to know if there are options in that hotel or in the NEAR BY area such as Starbuck's, McDonald's or some other exotic option We like a small breakfast of bread product, orange juice and coffee. I don't know what Chinese eat for breakfast but fish and soup WILL NOT DO!

The hotels we need information for are the Marriott City Wall Hotel (one that Princess uses for cruise tour) in Beijing and The Renaissance hotel in Bangkok (business district central city). Anybody have any answers??

We stayed in the marriott city wall in February. Very nice rooms and nice hotel, but we didn't think the location was brilliant. Near the train station which is not particularly good. We ventured out for lunch the day we arrived and there was difficulty in locating an english menu, not to mention the fact that they didn't really understand what you were trying to order! We wish we had stayed to eat at the hotel! Our stay included breakfast which is excellent. If you don't want to eat a buffet, I'm sure you can order alacarte. I think it's safer to actually stay and eat at the marriott. And this is coming from us who NEVER eat at hotels if we can help it! btw there are no macdonalds or starbucks nearby.

There is a McDonald's in the train station near the Marriott City Wall. Across the street from the train station is a Kentucky Fried Chicken. Over the walkway frorm the station. On the off side of the rail station is a Pizza Hut. I am sure there may be a Starbucks nearby. Near the KFC in the building, there is a large a large supermarket ( think walmart super super store) they have rolls, and juice and fruit in there it is in the basement of the building, just take the esc. down. All of this is located about 500 meters from your hotel. The people are friendly if you give a smile. We walked all over the area, to and from the subway station about 500 meters from the hotel both day and night until at 10:00pm. There is also a subway station at the train station, but not the line we needed. Subways have Chinese and English information and are easy to use. GET A CARD FROM THE HOTEL DESK, WITH CHINESE ADDRESS. IT will say that you are staying at this hotel just in case. Taxis are cheap, but will try to charge you more upon the return to the hotel. Have the doorman write out in Chinese where you want to go, along with the return price to the hotel. This helped a lot. In the last year we have stayed at this hotel for 15 days. It just had a remodel of the first floor this past year. The food in the hotel is good, breakfast buffet is outstanding, especially, when tour groups are not in the hotel. All food in the hotel is expensive, thinks western prices plus, in a nice hotel.

As hotels go the Marriott is OK but not a great location. Maybe we were unlucky but we found the rooms tired and not as clean as they should be. The buffet was fine with plenty of "western" options. We had the excellent dumplings - if you can't get them in China, where else?

Good tips upthread on taxis. Be wary too of drivers saying "taxi" outside places like the pearl market. They aren't taxis and will charge way over the odds. Make sure you're in an official taxi with a meter.

Any suggestions on other Marriott hotels. We have employee rates (about $60 per night) so we will stick with the brand. Thanks for your information.

I have no idea about other Beijing Marriots or even if they exist! Look at the Mariott website and crosscheck with TripAdvisor?
