A lot of airlines don't have advantegeous pricing if you are only going one way.

Has anyone ever used airticketsdirect?

Have you looked at 1800flyeurope. I used them last year. They had the lowest fees I could find at the time and they are very accessible for a consolidator. No problem getting to talk to an agent.

Only about three more months till airlines (at least some of them) will start releasing fares. I'm just hoping they won't break the bank....

Yah! Buying our plane tickets makes the trip a lot more real!

I've been busy tracking prices for the last few months so that I can figure out a price where I'll be most comfortable buying. As cheap as possible! Very frustrating when you see the one way fares more expensive that the return! I even called one of the airlines this week to ask why they don't have the "each way" fares we see for flying in North America. He says "we never have"! I had to remind him that it wasn't that long ago, they didn't for North American flights either, so his was not a reasonable excuse. Sigh! But, he said, I could just purchase the return fare and then let them know that I wouldn't be using it.....why would I do that?? So that they can resell the seat??

What's everyone's strategy??

Stopped by my TAs today to pay off a December Cruise.

We discussed the Princess Air Program, that I have never used.

TA told me that she is seeing some "very good" fares lately
on one way flights by Princess Air.

So, will see what Princess is offering on one way flights to Venice.

Also discussed buying a round trip ticket and just not using the return portion.

So, will wait until flights to Venice become available.

Cyril;

I hope this the case. Would be interesting to see what they offer. For last years Ruby T/A I always noted the EZ Air prices were consistently higher.

I did end up using a consolidator as the price was just too good to pass up.....

Denise,

We always use a consolidator on one way flights overseas. They just have the best prices, also I always include the insurance. Unfortuantly, we had to use it last year.

Denise, have you looked into Air Transat from Toronto to Venice? According to Canadians they have some of the best fares.

Last year we bought a round trip ticket home from London(cruise) because it was cheaper than a one way. Then I decided why throw away a good ticket, so booked a transatlantic and flew back to London using the return ticket .
I was also told that the airline can go back and charge you the one way fare if you don't use the round trip. They do have your credit card info so can do this. However, if someone misses a flight they don't do that so
maybe that is just a myth.

Hi Carib,

We are doing the Grand Med before this one so we need to fly into Barcelona. I have checked but the prices are similar, especially since Air Transat only flies a couple of days a week and you take hotel and food (and wine!) into consderation. However, Air Canada announced a new discount airline to the Caribbean and Europe yesterday so I think we will be holding off booking that flight until we they release some more information.

Denise - have you heard anything about when the A/C discount line will start flying?

We have been watching Air Transat too. We need to fly into Munich as we are going to Oktoberfest prior to the cruise. The 2012 schedule for Air Transat flights doesn't work for us, as they only fly to Munich one day a week. Hopefully the day of the week changes for the 2013 schedule! But if not, it is still cheaper to take Air Transat (club class) to London, and then pick up a flight from there to Munich, than it is to fly Air Canada one way directly to Munich.

Hopefully the Air Canada discount branch will be competitive!

Hi there Carib et al!

Hmmm....We will be in Barcelona in less than a year and ready to begin our Grand Med leg on the Royal Princess on September 27th!!!

Looks like we will be taking Air Transat and trying their Club Class even though it gets us to Barcelona a couple days earlier than we had planned for a few reasons. One, Club Class is less than the return flight in economy on Air Canada and less than half the price of a one-way. Two, I am a little nervous about only using one part of a return ticket and risking AC charging us. We will just have to get to Montreal but Air Transat has partnered with Via Rail so that looks good, and we will have the entire day to get there. Our hotel in Barcelona has confirmed availability so we are good to go!

Thanks for the advice. Michele, you should really check them out as the prices for their one-way flights to Venice are very reasonable.
