I don't know what the problem is. Every comedy club on land has open mic nights and people love it. This is how professional comedians become known. He also said they are not replacing the professional comedians. They are simply providing a chance to have some sort of entertainment on the nights there is no comedian in the comedy club. Some people complain about everything....

How is this any different then letting passengers sing karaoke a few different times during the cruise if that's something they like to do? If you don't like the idea of it then find something else to do.

Seems to me they have less pro entertainment and more karaoke these days....

I don't consider that to be a complaint - simply an observation.

I noticed that too, and personally, I don't enjoy karaoke, so when it's offered I find other things to do. Of course I usually end up in the casino so it's a win for Carnival then.

To each his own, but I agree with you. Some of the best comedy I've heard has been on Open Mic Night. However, Carnival has exhibited the knack for taking a decent idea too far to the extreme. They'll end up with one "professional" comedian per cruise while relying on "open mic amateurs" for the rest:rolleyes:

When he announced this I have to agree that I think it wouldn't work out. On land open mic nights may be for non-professionals trying to make it professional, but these people often prepare material for weeks, months, years. I fear cruisers would just be someone's drunk uncle who thinks he is funny.

However, it did make me think, "What kind of 'new' entertainment could break into the cruise industry?" I mean let's just take off the table trying to fix what is already there. But stuff that is taking off on land that could translate well to a ship? I haven't thought of anything yet.

It's simply an observation of a trend. I equal this to the passenger who brings their own music, to assault our ears while singing (loosely translated), because no one doesn't has the nerve to them they stink and quit trying to sing in church. Save it for the shower. How much are you willing to pay for ZERO "professional" acts and cafeteria food? First time cruisers don't know any better. Again a trend.

And I'm cruising Carnival in October. Might be the last time but I'm trying them again. So that takes care of that argument.

Some comics show up for open mike to practice a routine for the road.

Saw Dana Carvey a few years back and a couple others not so well known. Robin Williams has done this in the past as well( I misssed that one)

On a cruise ship NO Thank YOU

I don't see an problem with it -- no different than karaoke, amateurs having fun.

They said they would not replace regualr entertainment or professional comedy shows.

And what he says is ALWAYS true right?? BRILLIANT:rolleyes:

I agree with you mrscruisincritter, people should find something else to do if they wouldn't be entertained by open mic night. Guess most of the narrow-minded naysayers have never been to the 'big cities' where open mic nights are quite popular. If CCL sucks so bad, GO CRUISE ELSEWHERE. Seriously tired of all the bitching. Everyone has the right to spend their vacation dollars as they see fit. Don't let the gangplank hit you in the a** on your way out!!! :p

You are correct. Spend your dollars as you see fit. Enjoy the Kool Aid. I am immuned to gangplanks. Don't mind me as I see a product disintegrate before my eyes. They still are getting my dollars. But now they get less dollars for a lesser product and Princess sees their increase. It's all Carnival in the end.
