I would actually prefer an outside room because I think if I went a inside one I would get a bit claustrophobic, I would actually prefer a balcony but it doesn't look like they are available.

P&O inside cabins are actually not too bad. I thought that I would have that fear also but when we got in the room it was decorated so well that it wasn't tooooooo bad.

As suggested go for an inside guarentee and I know you won't be disappointed and with extra $$$ in your pocket!

I agree. I would prefer an outside cabin and, better than that, a balcony. But, it all depends on price. We have cruised in all sorts of cabins - inside, outside, balcony and Verandah suite.

I notice on Princess cruises where every cabin has a name tag with a coloured symbol that shows whether the occupants are first time cruises, or have a few cruises, or have more than 15 cruises (black card), a very high proportion of black card passengers are in inside cabins. They prefer to cruise more often rather than having an expensive cabin and only cruise occasionally.

My Mum-in-law who travelled with us for several years always insisted on a window "because I'm claustrophobic". On one rather expensive cruise we convinced her that we should have an inside cabin. When she walked in and saw the fake "window" at the end of the cabin, she said "Wow. That's OK, it looks like a window", and there wasn't one more word about claustrophobic. However, I am not saying you would feel the same. Be assured that a lot of frequent cruisers always book inside cabins.

Interesting...

Do you actually get any sort of good views from a window cabin or is it just a money maker for the company?

Also is it important to have a cabin that's quite high up on the ship or is it better down low?

I have my car insured with CGU and their assessors office in Brisbane is the same office as NRMA. I was told when I went in after an unfortunate ding in my car, that they were the same company.

For me the difference from inside to window, means natural light. You actually know when it's daylight and your body clock wakes naturally. I've found in inside cabins I sleep in because there's no natural light to wake me up (unless I set an alarm - which I detest doing on holidays!)

I don't get seasick so it doesn't matter where I am. If your prone to motion/sea sickness, they say lower down mid ship is the best place to be.

The other thing to look for is location. What is above, beside and below you. If you have something like the theatre above you, you will hear lots of noise at all hours. Same with the pool deck above you, you will often get deck chair scraping early in the morning when they are setting it up.
