How much to hire taxe from cruise ship in Naples to Positano? Not sure what to do, we have been to Sorrento and Pompei, don't want to do all day tour and want to see what the weather will be like on Nov 25. Any suggestions would be appreciated, we just don't want an all day tour.

The official one-way taxi fare from Naples to Positano is 120 Euros (one-way). But, it is Italy which means you may or may not find a taxi willing to do it that cheap. Most taxis would prefer to give you a tour of the Amalfi Coast for which they normally expect a minimum of 220 Euros (the offical price). However, we have seldom known a taxi to do this trip for less than 300 Euros. It all depends on supply and demand. Since you are are going to be doing this in late November (the off season) you might be able to negotiate a fair price...but being Italy one never can be sure. You can read the official Naples taxi fares at

http://www.comune.napoli.it/flex/files/D.ff5be05cc6dd0ef6f91c/TARIFFE_TAXI.pdf

But I would again caution that this is Italy which means these fares may or may not be honored. Make sure you negotiate your fare before you get in the taxi.

My five sisters and I returned from a 7 night cruise to the Western Mediterranean in October with the highlight of our cruise being our port stop in Naples. We had reserved a tour with a local company based in Sorrento: Aldo Limos http://www.aldolimos.com/

Aldo himself picked us up as we disembarked from the ship, and took us on a wonderful tour of the Amalfi Coast, including Positano, Amalfi, Ravello and a visit to Herculaneum. He speaks excellent English (having lived outside of Italy for a few years) as he says do all his drivers. He had a thorough knowledge of the area, was very informative, and was also very flexible as to our wishes.

His prices are very reasonable for a tour of this calibre ie 380 Euros total for all 6 of us for a tour that started at 830am until 500pm. If you are only a couple traveling alone,I would recommend you find others on the Cruise Critic board who would share the cost of this really worthwhile tour.

If you manage to find the SITA bus terminal there is also an almost direct bus (8:45 & 9:10) from Port of Naples to Positano. Takes 2 hrs o/w. There is also frequent bus service between Positano & Sorrento. http://www.sitabus.it/sitabus/campania/orarioCAMPANIA/QUADROXV.pdf

Beware of that particular bus route. It only operates on working days (not on weekends or holidays) and there is no return bus until late in the afternoon (too late to get back to the port).

Yes, return bus for Positano is too late for cruise departure. Return can be done via Sorrento anytime. There is frequent bus service between Positano & Sorrento and Sorrento & Naples. Bus is an economical alternative to 250-300 euro taxi option. Views from the bus or taxi window are probably the same.
